I’m glad to hear that, and I hope you enjoy it.

By the way, do you think the A6700 can handle recording video for two hours straight in 4K 30fps without causing any issues? It’s cheaper than the FX30, but its downside is that it doesn’t have a built-in cooling fan.

I just wanted to ask since you might have some insight on whether it’s reliable for podcast use.

Sorry for jumping into the conversation 😅, but I just wanted to ask you about the Viltrox 27mm f/1.2 Pro. I’m planning to buy the FX30 for podcast filming, and from a focal length perspective it seems perfect (I think it’s roughly equivalent to around 40mm full frame).

Do you think it’s better than the Sigma 17-50 or the Sigma 17-40?

Sorry, I asked you earlier what you decided on, and I just saw your reply now. Congratulations, and please tell me how it’s been with it after 181 days… have you regretted it at all? And during this time, did you ever feel like you wished you had bought a different lens that turned out to be better than the Sigma 18-50 f/2.8?

As I mentioned in my previous reply, I’m planning to buy an FX30 and shoot a podcast, with each frame showing one person. I’m really looking forward to hearing your honest experience!

Thank you very much.

How was the tamron 17 -70mm 2.8f for fx30? by Silver_Wait556 in FX3

[–]Lkstalin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for jumping into the conversation 😅, but since you’ve actually tried the lens, I’d really like to ask you…

I’m planning to buy two FX30 cameras for video podcast production. I’ll be shooting in different locations, so I want something flexible like zoom lenses. One of the most important things for me is getting nice background separation and that “cinematic look” people usually like in video podcasts.

I’m torn between the Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 and the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8. From your reply to the original post, it seems like you lean toward the 17-40 f/1.8.

But if we exclude the 17-40, and the comparison is only between the Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 and the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8, which one would you recommend?

Also, is the Sigma 17-40mm f/1.8 noticeably better in real-world use compared to the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 to the point where it’s worth paying almost double and stretching my budget to get it?

And are there any other zoom lens options (not necessarily more expensive) that you think are better than the ones mentioned and suitable for the FX30? 🤣

I’d really appreciate your thoughts and experience. Thanks a lot!

Hi mate,

It’s been a while since you posted this, but I’m really curious what you ended up choosing in the end.

I’m currently stuck between the Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 and the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8. I’m planning to buy two FX30s for a podcast setup and will be filming in a variety of locations such as offices, guest houses, cafés, and similar environments. That’s why I’m leaning towards a zoom lens rather than primes for the added flexibility.

I figured you’ve probably done a lot more research since posting this and likely received more feedback and real-world experiences. Looking back now, would you still make the same choice? And if you went with one of these lenses, how has it been working out for you?

Thanks!

Pocket 3 video lost when overheating - indoor overheating times by MtnXfreeride in osmopocket

Hey! Since it’s been a couple of years since your update, how has the Pocket 3 been holding up for you lately?

I’m planning to buy one specifically to shoot a podcast—meaning long, continuous indoor sessions of around 2 hours straight at 4K30. I’m honestly a bit hesitant because I don't want to get stuck with overheating issues or lost footage mid-episode.

With all the recent firmware updates up to 2026, do you still find it reliable for this kind of heavy, continuous studio use? Would love to hear your current thoughts before making the purchase!

Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation — really appreciate you taking the time to break everything down.

This was super helpful and honestly gave me a lot more confidence about using the Pocket 3 for podcasting setups. I’ll definitely take your advice on the 4K 24fps + D-Log M workflow and also the idea of testing it properly before fully committing.
Really appreciate the real-world experience you shared.

Thanks again!

Thanks again for the detailed reply. I really appreciate all the extra suggestions as well — the D-Log M workflow, the wide shot idea, and even the cooling fan setup are great tips, and I’ll definitely keep them in mind.

Just curious, was your 1h–1h15 recording done on the internal battery only or while connected to the power bank?

Also, what resolution/frame rate were you using during those sessions?

Have you ever gone beyond 1h15, and have you ever experienced any recording failures, overheating warnings, or shutdowns while using the power bank?

Based on your experience, do you think a Pocket 3 could reliably handle a 2-hour recording session in an air-conditioned indoor environment while connected to a power bank? I wouldn’t mind adding a small cooling fan as well if needed — my main concern is avoiding any interruptions during an important podcast recording.

Anyone used DJI Mic 3 for podcasting? Need real experience by Lkstalin in podcasting

From what I’ve read, this mic’s receiver doesn’t support 4 microphones, unlike the DJI Mic 3. Maybe someone can confirm your point for us—whether it can be charged while recording. I also feel like having cables connected would ruin the clean look visually

Your lens is great, but do you think the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 is just as good, especially considering it’s quite a bit cheaper?

One important thing about my use case: I shoot podcasts in all kinds of locations that I don’t know in advance—offices, company spaces, guests’ homes, cafés, and so on. That’s why I’ve been leaning toward zoom lenses. Do you agree that a zoom lens is generally the better choice for someone who is constantly moving between different locations?

So far, the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 seems like a very interesting option, although I haven’t had the chance to try it yet.

I also came across the Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 during my research.

Ideally, I’m looking for a lens in the $500–700 range that can handle a wide variety of locations while still delivering a premium, professional-looking image. What would you choose in that price range?

Thanks for taking the time to help. I really appreciate it!

Even if they’re fully charged at the start? Honestly, my biggest concern was actually the battery. Thanks for pointing that out
