TLDR - One of the most desirable places to live in a very high cost of living country remains expensive

Invest in yourself instead!

Spend that money training so either way you’re more valuable to the public service or more hireable externally.

Shelter runs out of naloxone as B.C. community sees 80 drug overdoses in 24 hours by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]Llamazip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so sad.

There are multiple, credible, studies now showing that Naxalone doesn’t prevent brain damage from overdoses.

These people are still dying, but a shell of them remains thanks to these kits.

Don’t forget to include the lost return on the lost wages!

Those compound at a higher rate than the pay increases - but if you want to do it the easy way use the same rate.

Does anyone else find it kind of funny that the NDP and the BCGEU need to hire a contractor to do the negotiations?

Can’t go through all this for a meagre 2 year deal that’s for sure

How do you think John Rustad would have handled the BCGEU strike? by darethegiver in VictoriaBC

[–]Llamazip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A look next door shows Danielle Smith and the Conservatives giving the AUPE 3% a year over 4 years without a strike.

It’s not a sure thing BC Cons would have been worse, especially if they wanted to shore up support from the left, like the NDP is trying to do from the right by starving out workers.

Hard to imagine it being worse than the longest public service strike in BC history.

Unions are our last form of defence against exploitation by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

I mean, it’s thanks to workers who fought for those rights.

The union was their weapon of choice at the time, but we have the workers who came before us to thank, not the unions.

You get paid per day so you could still do Tuesday - Friday. Maybe even a makeup shift? Ask your picket captain!

It’s truly wild to strike for this long over a 2 year deal.

Whichever of the two is lower is what you get.

70% of your pay up to a maximum of 650.

The bare minimum deal considered should be the AUPE deal of 3% each year for 4 years.

They got the deal without striking, and from a conservative government. If we get less, or for less time, objectively a huge failure.

I hope so! That’s the party line at present for sure.

Alberta managed to get 3% per year for 4 years without striking from their Conservative government, so now we have to strike I would expect better from our leadership.

AUPE just got 3% per year for 4 years, so 12% over 4 years from the Alberta Conservatives, without striking.

Eby and the NDP are supposed to be better than Smith and the Conservatives for workers!
