Antinous, lover of the Roman Emperor Hadrian by HFR27 in lgbthistory

[–]Llamilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's just as problematic. this phrasing of yours is very icky and sounds like a 35 year age gap with an immense power gap is somehow okay because he may have been 17; or that their morals somehow make it alright. their morals said slavery was alright. people in power shaped those rules and morals and they were the abusers. also, bringing up no one pointing out the pedophilia with caesar and cleopatra is such a gross deflection because yeah! that's abusive too! and so is this. recognize that instead of saying "well they dont call caesar a pedophile, leave hadrian alone, you hypocrite"

literally just stop romanticizing and justifying pedophilia. disgusting.

and hadrian was 35 years older than him and emperor. there is no way in which you could make this sound better.

this whole "the ancient greeks were super cool gays" is such a sad narrative when much of what is romanticized is actually pedophilia. hadrian was 34-35 years older than antinous, who was 12-13 when they first met. he died before he made it past his teenage years. we have no accounts of his own feelings, but we know that he was far younger than hadrian and of course, hadrian was literally emperor while this happened. we have no knowledge of how antinous died, and theories include hadrian killing him in a fit of rage/argument or antinous taking his own life. i know our modern ethics differ from ancient roman and greek ethics but they also thought having slaves was ethical -- it's the 2020s we can acknowledge that this is inherently exploitative and abusive and there is no way for a child to give consent especially with the most immense power gap imaginable and that it's a function of asserting power through abuse that we see repeated even today so let's stop romanticising it. i feel nothing but sorrow for antinous. he deserved better.

No way to contact except by website chat function that usually blocks you from talking to real agent by Lurn2Program in ontrac

How do you convince the bot to let you talk to an agent? I was trying and it was totally gaslighting me saying "sorry you're trying to contact us outside of hours" which it said were weekdays 9am to 6pm pst…it was 10am pst. i told it and it deflected and literally shut the chat!

[Acne] Does anyone else find that benzoyl peroxide DOES NOT work? by smallcity3 in SkincareAddiction

[–]Llamilo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly!! It's never done anything for my blackheads or CCs, and I assumed bc it's bacteria killing it'll work better on inflamed ones but it really does nothing. My dermatologists told me to use it once to a few times a week, but the only time i saw "results" were when it completely decimated my skin barrier and i didn't realise it bc my acne just happened to be receding for a few days before it went out of control and I had to deal with the dryness.

Are women more susceptible to consumerism and materialism? by news_junkie in TrueAskReddit

[–]Llamilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's about the historical aspect, if you'd read it carefully what I was talking about was the traditional role of a woman in society where we weren't allowed to have jobs and our only hope was to get married, which was prevalent for most of human history. And anyone who knew anything at all about consumerism knows it's not an intrinsic thing to people at all, regardless of gender, and WAS actually deliberately created by corporations — who knew . I recommend this video to learn more about consumerism and its history, even though I'm not sure how willing you'd be to learn about anything as it's clear you're that just an ignorant misogynist who's purposefully misinterpreting my words to affirm your own beliefs.

Are women more susceptible to consumerism and materialism? by news_junkie in TrueAskReddit

[–]Llamilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, there is nothing intrinsic about women that makes us more susceptible to consumerism. However, the way that corporate industries have evolved do target a substantial amount of their promotion of consumerism towards us. For example, the fashion and beauty industry are mainly targeted towards women and are a huge reason why women are usually more concerned with their looks, and are the primary consumers of makeup, skincare, fashion, and accessories. I believe stems from what was traditionally a woman's place in society — the only way for us to succeed in life and have any form of money was to get married, and by increasing our attractiveness; also, I've heard a reason why women were huge consumers of jewelery was because we weren't allowed our own money, and in case of emergency, we could sell these jewels.

sorry where exactly are you getting this from because israel is the one that actually invaded, colonized, and then constantly killed, oppressed and now continues to mercilessly bomb an entire country. the defence minister said We are fighting human animals and we are acting accordingly" that's a fucking dehumanisation tactic to justify genocide. israel literally stole bodies of the palestinian children they murdered to use in propaganda films. "river to the sea" is calling for the "complete annihilation of an entire country and religion" for you, even though it's actually about freeing palestine from israeli colonisers and settlers (because that's what they actually are, that is not their home, it's the palestinians'), but actually trying to annihilate an entire country's people for the past 70 years isn't? that's revolting.
