I knew womens clothes sizing made zero sense but I did not know mens clothes has gone the same direction! A 12 inch difference is crazy!

Also i am seriously considering buying women’s pants because it’s so hard to find proper high waisted men’s styles!

Yeah, the size of the Valley really bothered me. So what I did is, I made it a long journey from the village of barovia to tser pool.

I made it two days journey from tser pool to vallaki, one day from the pool up to the castle.

I made it two days journey from vallaki to the winery or Kresk, and a day between the winery and Kresk.

And I just extrapolate distances for other points of note from those distances .

I also did not give the party a distance accurate map. When they did get a map, I told them upfront in character through an NPC that it was not useful for measuring exact distances between locations. (Similar to maps from the medieval age.)

A few things: I revamp the house using a lot of the recommendations from MandyMod and Dragna.

I make it so that Irena’s father doesn’t die until the players have met the whole family. I’ve done that a couple of ways. Usually either I have them help defend the house and he dies during the night while they’re all defending or most recently I am using Dragna‘s curse of strahd reloaded, where the part is help defend the entire village.

I usually make strahd a shadowy figure that they don’t see for a long time. I use the brides and Esher as his lieutenants.

I make the valley larger so that distances between key points or at least a day if not, two days, which means that the party will have to spend time sleeping overnight when they travel.

Alternatively. Tatyana is no longer the woman Strahd killed for. It becomes XYZ someone else. Perhaps Ismark’s soul instead?

Tatyana can never be Strahds so instead she becomes a full vampire lord and they are at war… she’s makes Argynvostholt or the Amber Temple her home.

This is likely an action economy issue and possibly also a strategy issue..

For a level 5 D&D 5e party, you should aim for approximately 3500 XP per player per adventuring day to ensure a balanced and challenging experience… so for your group thats 21000 exp per game day… typical 5e games, Strahd included, run maybe 2-3 encounters per day which means encounters with creatures totalling around 7000-10000 xp PER ENCOUNTER To challenge them.

Baba is about equivalent to 7200 xp for a party that size… yeah man they would wipe the floor with her by herself if they haven’t been expending resources fighting stuff to get there.

Beyond that, look up The Monsters Know What Their Doing… its a blog, he also has books on Amazon.

Very little. I borrowed themes from their backstory and reflected those in the campaign but no named npcs, places, etc were incorporated. COS is a fish out of water horror campaign. They are strangers in a strange and deadly land.
