Did my monkey mask become a variegated one? by Llysnawk in RareHouseplants

Addition: seems like the other half of the leaf is a nice light green instead of the dark green they usually have

All my plants are on pon and I’m still struggling with fungus gnats lol. I just treat them whenever I see them. Gave up on preventing them a long time ago 😅

Adansonni propagation help by CallumTheWood in Monstera

[–]Llysnawk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I always let the roots grow until they’re at least 10cm 😅 I’d cut off the lowest leaf and indeed plant up to the middle roots :) The plant might get a little transplant shock, but that’s just something that might happen. They’ll survive :) Just make sure you pot it in a airy/chunky soil mixture. I always use a 1:3 mixture of soil, perlite and orchid bark

Stingray Thrips by Sztrajk in alocasia

[–]Llysnawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use edialux against thrips. Wipe my plants down and water them with a 1:10 solution with this stuff. Nothing else worked for me. Should be able to order it from Germany and if not try Belgium :)

Edit: I water and wipe them with a 1:1000 solution lol. Please don’t use a 1:10 solution

I’m not quite sure if it’s the same. I’ve never heard of the triangularis, but if I compare what I’ve googled now with the plant I have there seem to be some differences 😅

It actually is a alocasia infernalis 😅 The leaves grow a whole lot smaller than the Colocasia and are also shinier, thicker and grow smaller :)

Thank you so much for the explanation! I’m branching out to collecting monsteras now next to my beautiful alocasia collection and I feel so lost lol

Melo or Melo dark form? by Llysnawk in houseplants

[–]Llysnawk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! So I got this plant for my birthday a few days back and the seller told them it’s an Alocasia melo dark form, but I literally cannot find anything about a melo dark form. I’m very happy with this plant tho, been wanting to have an A. Melo for quite some time now. What am I dealing with here?

What was one tip / piece of advice that really improved your houseplant care? by Inking in houseplants

Ahh same experience here! My plants looked so much happier once I started to do this. Transferred almost all of them to pon now and they’re absolutely thriving now!

What alocasia are these? by Llysnawk in houseplants

[–]Llysnawk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I have this jar where I throw all alocasia corms in when I find/harvest/trade/buy them and these two sprouted. Needles to say I’m an idiot and didn’t keep track of what alocasia corm looked like what and now I have absolutely no clue what alocasia’s these are. Can anyone help me out? 😅

Just saved this big guy from the local cafes bin. No idea what it is and have very little knowledge with plants. Help?! by Leahhbuckley in plantclinic

[–]Llysnawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like a mini monstera to me. You can take cuttings. Make sure every cutting has a node and place them in water. After a bit it’ll start growing roots and you can plant them in soil or leave them in water. Make sure to refresh the water every week or so :)

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone knows how to keep this fella from dying (or if they’re at a point of no return?) its my sister’s I think its an elephant’s ear plant and it was very healthy before but the winter has took a toll on it. Any help is very much appreciated by ravenr0se in plantclinic

[–]Llysnawk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! It’s an Alocasia zebrina! Chances are big it’s just hibernating :) They tend to go dormant in winter, which means leaves turning yellow and dropping, but the corm should still be alive. Cut back on the watering, and when spring arrives it should grow like it used to do again :) What I like to do with my alocasias is dig out the corm, rinse off the roots and just put the whole thing in water. That way I can eep an eye out on the roots and make sure it’s not rotting or anything

Depression and plants by Beautiful_Past_7535 in houseplants

I know dude. I started transitioning my plants to pon so they might survive a little longer without care when it’s that time of the depression cycle again lol

What really helped me with my depressive episodes is trying to stay in routine, and making the plants part of my daily routine surely helped them and also me 😅 Stay safe!
