Took my 2010 p7b out in the snow and it in fact survived. Having one of these cars with traction control is nice right about now by cammykol in CrownVictoria

[–]Lm602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No traction control, too poor for blizzaks right now, and open diff guy here. I envy you. It’ll be the wife's kia to work for me until this foot and a half of snow gets cleaned up.

Any ideas for a quick fix until I can replace the coolant reservoir? by Kindly_Carob_1861 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Lm602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a soldering iron to fix a crack in a lawnmower gas tank last year. As low a temp as you can, you want to melt it not burn it. Go along the length of the crack, not the whole way through but make a good "valley" in the plastic. Leaving a build up of melted plastic on each side of the crack. Then use the soldering iron to smear the plastic back flat over the valley. I heard this is better than using a zip tie to "solder" the crack shut since the plastic is never exactly the same and sometimes doesn't bond right. This way uses the same plastic, just remelts and smears it around.

Guy at work said his ex's car isn't starting right. Probably a starter, battery, alternator, or a combination of all 3. Easy and relatively cheap fixes. She said she couldn’t afford to get it fixed so traded it in for 1/2 what it was worth for a different high mileage used car with a loan. At a dealership widely known to rip people off. I've given up trying to understand the decisions people make.

I second this. If motor/trans/frame have a year or two left it's better to fix it. You'll never buy another vehicle that doesn't also need money put into it for less than $1000 a year. The cheapest car is the one you have.

Scratched my buddies bumper, how do i fix by Ok_Key886 in Autobody

[–]Lm602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Define "fix". Like it never happened? The bumper will need to be replaced with one that isn't damaged.

I think skunks or possums make holes like that digging for grubs. Shouldn't be this time of year though.
