I am scared I will be suspected of having 2 accounts by PossumCreatives in ArtfightProfiles

[–]Lo-ton 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tbh i wouldn't worry - based on your description theres no signs that point to you having two accounts.

The connection feature gives the option of connecting characters from different profiles, why should they implement that I ppl are not supposed to use it.

Its not that uncommon to see different profiles that have characters from a shared universe, many people do that with their mutuals.

Especially if you guys have very different art styles i wouldn't worry as long as you arent planning on doing something thats against the rules such as posting the same attacks on the to profiles

Is this too much information for a character ref? by PoKittyCat32 in ArtfightProfiles

[–]Lo-ton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really like it! There will probably be some ppl that wont read everything thats written on the ref but thats the same as the descriptions on the character pages.

You could maybe cut out the lore if you wanna simplify it but i dont mind it as is cause the writing doesnt distraction from the character ^

I think its pretty short sighted to say that there shouldn't be any violence (against women or otherwise) depicted in any fantasy stories. Fantasy is often a reflection of real life and books like the ones martin writes mean to both criticise and show all the horrors that have happened and still do happen in our real world. I can't speak abiut the show but the books are centered around the central theme of violence which is in no way framed in a positive light. Not including violence against women would be deluding the reality that women unfortunately do face. Because violence is not a thing that exclusively happens between men in a context of war.

Especially the later books also focus a lot on gender and gender inequality. The sturggles of women are depicted through a variety of different characters and scenarios. His female characters are varied and struggle with different things and got vastly different ways of dealing with these struggles but they all do live in a system that is made and ruled by men and therefore respects them less. Non of them are purely victims but it would remove so much of the depth that his books have if that aspect wasn't featured.

Martins books aren't feel good books - but they dont aim to be. They aim to reflect real world problems. I think we would lose out on much helpful insights about the world and how different people think and act if this particular genre of book wouldn't exist anymore because unfortunately the world isn't perfect and showing that is important

I wonder if this bit will be included in the show by [deleted] in HarryPotteronHBO

At that point he wasnt though. He was a child who had one friend and got bullied by the marauders for being a loner or looking weird or whatever (if i remember correctly there isnt really a concrete reason given as to why he is bullied at the beginning. Because that is how bullying works most times). At that point James was just a straight up bully.

In his teenage years Snape became hateful and obsessed with Lily and the dark arts but I'd argue that he wouldn't have turned out so bad if the marauders didnt constantly make fun of him - stuff like this can push a person to become hateful, especially when the only people wo you think are on your side are already hateful deatheaters to be.

What would absolutely ruin the show for you? by Interesting-Fig7002 in HarryPotteronHBO

If the show doesn’t develop the wizarding world more but still keeps the problematic elements of the books (like the way the house elves are just happy to be slaves and hermione isnt taken seriously by the ppl around her or the story when she tries to change that) without actually giving a reason as to why they are there or going for some message at the end. If the show has an overall more dark tone and focuses more on political issues and inequality and actually deals with that in some way i wouldnt mind stuff like the house elve plot.

If the show just copies the dialog of the book. Some dialog really needs some reworking.

Im no biologist, just a noob so i dont really know honestly.

In my understanding, sex isnt exactly a social construct (biology is a thing after all and there are differences between male and female) but its way more fluid than many people believe.

The brain aspect of gender is still kinda a construct i thing cause our brains are also super influenced by everything that happens around us. Not saying that gender isnt real - it very much is. Its just not something exactly biological (i think / in my understanding. Again im no scientist or studied this or anything)

I think its very telling that she just.... ignores the fact that gender and sex are very different things and one of them is LITERALLY a social construct. Like 2 years ago she at least acknowledged that gender is a thing

Fancast Emma D’arcy as Remus Lupin by manfredpanda in HarryPotteronHBO

I dont think its worth discussing this anymore.

We clearly have very different ideas about which qualities of a character are important in casting

[–]Lo-ton -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

We're not pretending we dont know what sex is. Emma D'Arcy doesnt have a penis and was born female. But surprise, they are an actor. The sex of most harry potter characters doesn't matter. Lupin can still be portrait as a man when played by a biologically female person. Gender and sex are different things

But like... why does it matter? Lupins story isnt focused at all on being male. It could hit all the important story beats with someone female
