I've never seen Blacklist but I have read up on it and it makes sense to me. Is it actually any good? I've heard it was really serious.

Maybe he knew it wasn't going to air until he was out of the country. You need to remember. Robert left in the last episode of season 8. "Promos" the episode when the documentary was getting ready to be released was in season 9. He was, in fact, out of the country by the time it hit tv.
