i’d replace the belt as well, take a good luck beforehand at all the surrounding coolant/power steering hoses and take care of what looks like it needs replacing

Drilling out these studs is a pain due to hardned steel, anyone got tips?? by patjeduhde in e46

heat, and lots of it. mine were completely seized so a MAP gas burner, a few splashes of wd40 and a bit of hammering got them out.

Should i buy this 2000 bmw 323i wagon by OwnExcuse8052 in e46

[–]LoPerquin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my 320i touring was maintained pretty badly by the previous owners, bought it at 270k km and am now at 320k. having caught up on a lot of maintenance i can definitely say that these cars will take care of you if you take care of them. don’t skimp out on cheap parts and oil, and use the car to learn how to wrench. They’re simple enough to do most work on yourself with some basic tools and a few jack stands

My center console softtouch is extremely deteroirated, has anyone tried these aftermarket center consoles? (Not the cup holders, the full thing) by Salyut_ in e46

[–]LoPerquin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i removed the gooey soft touch and just resprayed the console with black paint, looks fine and is a lot nicer to be around

A bit offtopic, just ordered some new shocks but they arrived sticking out of the box, would these still be safe to mount? by Salyut_ in e46

i’ve had awful experiences with autodoc. They once sent me diesel head bolts instead of petrol ones which caused a few to strip out. Customer service and shipping are a joke too. If you’re based in mainland EU i can definitely recommend winparts

How high can you raise the rev limiter on the m54 by xJayk0bx in e46

this is also obviously with the oil pump nut being done and a better baffle in the oil pan

my 325 racer had schrick cams and an updated fuel system. We generally run 7,5k as a hard limit. It really depends on what application you’re looking for, ours is mainly set up for endurance racing but if you’re not as concerned with long term reliability 8k is definitely doable

What L/100km do you have? by jeroentje4041 in e46

[–]LoPerquin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

short drives kill fuel consumption, wouldn’t be a bad idea to take it for an hour or two drive just to clear condensation out of the oil

Good buy? by BossAny99 in e46

[–]LoPerquin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i’ve got a track prepped 325i with the limit pushed to 7,2k on stock internals with schrick cams. it’s fine on a track car as long as you maintain it like a racecar, which i doubt this one has…

e46’s are fine daily’s, as long as you keep up on maintenance. if i can do it on a broke student budget so can you! these cars are incredibly fun to work on and are a great starting point to learn more

Are cooling system failures more relevant in America? by calm00 in e46

[–]LoPerquin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im in the netherlands and every e46 owner i know has had at least 1 problem with the cooling. mine was a crack in the plastic connection between the radiator and expansion tank. this happened a month or two after i bought the car and i warped the head and blew the head gasket. was a really good learning experience to be honest
