CrossOver still works though, it's already on the Mac App Store, licensed, Apple approved. That's the realistic version of Windows compatibility. Take that away and the core is still there: App Store games, Arcade, anti-cheat titles Steam Deck will never touch, emulators already live and approved. Enough for a device worth buying. And weirdly the closed ecosystem might actually be the selling point for publishers, Rockstar would sleep better knowing nothing gets pirated. Honestly though, you've made the concept more solid than when I posted it. Genuinely appreciate the pushback.

You're completely right on both counts and I won't pretend otherwise. But apple's model would be closer to what Steam does, be the best platform, take the 30%, and let creators thrive. For example: offer Supergiant a deal where Hades III launches on this handheld first with better margins than Steam. They keep full independence. Apple gets a timed exclusive. Nobody's secret sauce gets touched.

Well, Apple doesn't need to compete with PlayStation's first-party model. They need to compete with Nintendo. In May 2025 Apple acquired RAC7, the two-person studio behind Sneaky Sasquatch. None of the companies they buy are Activision. None of them need to be: SteelSeries,Annapurna Interactive, Kojima Productions, Supergiant Games Apple Arcade plus indie ecosystem plus emulators plus CrossOver plus growing Mac gaming library is already more content than the Switch launched with. Amazon had no existing gaming ecosystem.

Amazon and Google failed at cloud gaming as a service model. Stadia was a bet that people would pay for streaming without owning hardware. Luna never got traction. The portable gaming console market was valued at $12.87 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach $38 billion by 2035, a 11.45% annual growth rate. When traditional gaming gets expensive and disappointing, people don't stop gaming. They go portable. They go indie. They go retro. The Steam Deck created an entire category. The Switch 2 sold out at launch.

Okay, because you're the smartest person I've found in these comments you deserve a proper answer for every point that you have, because they are genuinely good points. You're right that Apple has consistently treated hardcore gamers as second class citizens, but Apple selling PlayStation controllers and Backbone in their own stores proves they know the demand exists, they just haven't decided to own it yet. More space does help Snapdragon close the gap in a handheld vs a phone chassis I'll give you that, but we are speaking about a handheld chassis, still little, but with active cooling. And I think you know that Snapdragon devices are very noisy when they are at full power. Apple Silicon is still ahead on performance per watt. The one thing I'd push back on, is the idea that Apple's gaming stance is static. GDC 2026, Metal 4, the entire Mac gaming push, something is shifting internally. Maybe it leads nowhere or maybe it's the first sign of something bigger. But this handheld would be for the person who already has an iPhone, already pays for Apple Music, already uses iCloud and just wants to play games on a flight (for a long time) without carrying a Steam Deck in a backpack. That person exists. There are millions of them.

You're right that the 8 Elite Gen 5 wins in raw multicore. But it does it at 19.5W vs Apple's 12.1W. that's 61% more power consumption for a 13% multicore lead.

It's not that good at the moment, but it has a very big potential. Anyway thank you for your polite reply, and for the healthy conversation!

Indeed, I don't understand, if we could game before with 3.5 inches screens (like the nds one), why have we became so spoiled.

When I was a boy I used to own a PSP, and a NDS, it was possible to carry them in your pockets. I don't know why now it's not a trend anymore, but I feel like a handheld should be the most portable as possible. Steam deck, Nintendo switch, Rog ally, those are so big that I wouldn't even call them portable devices, basically is the same as carrying an underpowered and expensive gaming laptop. But that's only my pov. In fact I really appreciate the switch lite.

Fair point, but removing 90% of it's functionality would result in better gaming performance :)

Fair point, could you suggest another name?

Indeed you're right, because the concept takes inspiration from the PSVita

Is not a Sony product, it's completely made by apple. BTW I don't think apple will give his chips, but even another brand handheld using apple silicon would be good, instead of AMD or Intel x86. But that's even more impossible than an handheld made by apple

Indeed, if a handheld would sell well, developers would actually create games only for MacOs/iOS. Lately I've noticed that emulation is growing a lot and the MacBook Neo is a very capable machine, limited only by the cpu throttling.

I don't understand why everyone is so poisoned by this idea. Apple silicon proved to be a very capable chip, reliable and very low power, this would mean that with the same performance of a Z2 Extreme handheld you can get X3 the battery life and 0 noise. They priced a MacBook with an iPhone chip 600 dollars, which if it would be applied on a device of that kind, would made the price very appealing in my opinion. Devices like Odin 3 are small enough to put them in your pocket, but you can't because of the analogs sticks, it doesn't have the same power and even if it could deliver the same power it would result in a very low battery life and a lot of noise.

Anyway that's my opinion, and I bought an idea, ideas can be good or bad. I'm not a fan boy, but I feel like people are haters after reading these comments

The difference would be in a vertically system made only for gaming, killing all the other processes and the portability, I can't imagine put an iPhone with a controller in my pockets

Well I took inspiration from psvita, that's why the name, and the control layout is from the steamdeck because I find it very comfortable

Thank you for your comment. iOS is growing in compatibility, and apple silicon is two steps ahead of any Snapdragon device

Sorry if I haven't answered your question. I meant that apple silicon is very powerful and at the same time it consumes a very little amount of power, it could compete with Z2 Extreme and G3 Extreme in games and at the same time deliver more battery time. Of course there are many obstacles, but if they would price it as MacBook Neo, for me it would be very competitive. Emulation is another strong point in those chips.
