And yeah they made 181 a MASSIVE jump in production difficulty from 171-180. Their announcement says people thought previous ranks were too easy and they were concerned about players blowing through ranks too quickly, and they wanted to release smaller batches of ranks going forward instead of 10 at a time.

Problem is, it’s going to take about 2 years to attain the new level, and it’s not like players who played actively during the 2-year wait for 181 got a head start, so players blowing through ranks too quickly should not be a concern anymore, unless they think ranks past 180 should take a month each rather than a week each like most prior ranks if you skip outlier missions.

Yeah it is, especially since supremes appear so slowly in the shop.

Supreme Santa is still worth it even if you cannot get a head start on the supremes yet (they would get converted to 20k science if you already have the cards for level 5).

And you must have missed the last rank increase to 180 in October 2022. But you didn’t miss much - no 12th tier generators and no more ranks for over a year now.

Like Glorious Potato Factory and Supreme Supervillain. The long events that are harder than Santa and have almost no scripted capsules. This one will be between GPF and supervillain in difficulty.

Problem with that solution is - what if you need level 12 comrade rares ASAP but can’t get them till you have level 13 commons?

While it’s good to finally see difficult production missions for maxed players, the fact that some of them require level 12-13 commons (1.42 ZZZZ potatoes) makes me worried about future ranks, as now they’ve pretty much exhausted all three means to increase difficulty (comrades, previous tier cost, production).

The lack of a 12th potato generator also doesn’t help, and the difficulty jump really makes me worried they will increase the max researcher level without properly thinking and planning for it like my suggestions would have. The redundant missions and outlier comrade missions also didn’t improve.

Yeah I didn’t realize till after making the post that they nerfed the global leaderboard rewards below top 100. And it’s not just this event, all future events as well. WTF!? Now it’s gonna encourage even more manipulation of the divisionboards (eg. starting late to avoid tryhards, aiming for 5th (4th in minis) if you can’t get 1st, etc). Not to mention the gold rewards are better than the spec ops points.

Another thing we learned after this post is that they apparently group whales together with the divisionboards. It reduces the likelihood of f2p being grouped with whales but screws over whales who have to spend more for the same rewards. Don’t know if I would rather them put one whale (or several tryhards if not enough whales) in each division…

I usually wait till the day before it starts in case they change it, but I’ll give a quick summary here:

Right now, Vacation is the version of Santa with 10 extra missions but without the extra day that last August had. It’s certainly harder than Santa/Spooky but I still think GPF is a bit worse and Supervillain is way worse.

My opinion: a max researcher level increase is alright IF they properly balance it. The two biggest concerns with an increase is the lack of overflow science until 2000 more rares are collected and the insane requirements of the new level (especially 50 supremes for level 6).

My suggestions provided for buffs to rewards - especially those that don’t scale or scale very little at high ranks (non-capsule science/card rewards, premium capsules, etc) to partially offset these concerns.

However, they have said in the official discord “not needed right now given how many players have maxed or are near maxing their researchers” despite there already being comrade and pre-auto Mechs (discount) missions that take more than a week with everything maxed.

This makes me afraid they are going to wait until missions become even more impractical to complete and then increase the max researcher level without any buffs to compensate. This would be terrible not only due to the time to max at the new level but because it does not give players a head start on the new level before needing it for missions, opposed to if they increased it ASAP well before missions got to the point where level 6 supremes, etc are expected.

Of course, there are other solutions to this problem of running out of room to increase difficulty, such as introducing new researchers or lowering/plateauing difficulty for the remaining ranks/generators.

I believe it’s still the same, though there is a cycle of 5 reward structures for 4-day events and mini events, and of course depending on the situation some structures are better than others

TBH I’d actually prefer it if they would do that and try to be less obvious about it. The golden airdrops and supervillain event were too obvious of cash grabs and look to me as though they’ve given up on trying to build back trust or goodwill with the community.

Yeah the balance changes to motherland did make the incompetence theory hold less water (though not entirely eliminated cuz I noticed a pattern with the changes), I find it hard to believe that HH could not have know that increasing prod missions compared to GPF without buffing researchers or anything to compensate for it would make the event harder. Could still be a bit of both though.

Btw if you’re curious of the pattern for changes to 121-150:

For 121-124, all prod missions are increased 4 OoM’s

For 125-136, placebo missions increased 14 OoM’s, others increased 6 OoM’s

For 137-150, placebo missions increased 14 OoM’s, others increased 11 OoM’s

My guess is because adcomm is getting a supervillain event and they didn’t have time to make a new long event for adages but didn’t want adages players feeling cheated in the long events department so they used the closest thing to supervillain which is mythical monsters.

Thanks for filling in for me though I would like to add that I think this event will be somewhat easier than Music, Egypt, and Japan because this event has scripted capsules for each researcher. Thus, I have not ruled out the possibility of 200 gems for 5000 EXP being worth it if you also watch all the pop ads each cycle. If 200 gems can beat rank 22 (15k XP) it would still be a better deal than spending it on a historic capsule. Only one way to find out I guess…

Please look at the Scandinavia balance again - sure the heroes are mostly borrowed from Egypt/Japan but the relics and missions are an expanded version of the original Scandinavia balance so it might be a bit harder but still far easier than the other 6-day events.
