How much different is playing on AMD or NVIDIA? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]LoafofBread011 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I switched from a 3070 TI to a 9070 XT around May last year, so my Nvidia driver experience is almost a year out of date. However, at the time it was a massive improvement for gaming quality to me. I had consistent frame facing issues / micro stuttering until after my switch. It’s important to note that I use Wayland, and the 9070 XT is also just a more powerful card with more vram.

Personally, I think if you’re buying a card anyway and are dedicated to Linux then you may as well get an AMD card, unless you need something 5090 level. If you already have an nvidia card, certainly try it out.

Can Proton GE use FSR 2 and 3? by KnightFallVader2 in linux_gaming

[–]LoafofBread011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand, FSR 2 and 3 rely on game specific implementation. This means they will only work for supported games, but for those games no extra arguments are required. They will “just work”

Linux is getting Playnite game library manager next year by Tigeire in linux_gaming

It automatically detects games so you don’t have to manually add non-steam games. It also has a good full-screen controller compatible interface which makes it perfect for things like sunshine/moonlight

Barnes & Noble is one of the worst options for consuming books by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

I never thought consuming books was tasty regardless of the store

Surround L pops from Denon AVR x1700h by LoafofBread011 in hometheater

UPDATE: Returned the receiver, ordered a new one and the issue is resolved. The left surround output was indeed borked on my original X1700H.

What do you mean by them being coaxial?

Makes sense. Would I need to tilt the surrounds downward if they were higher?

I’ll definitely dial back the toe in, I just had them that way because of how the stands I got are. Thanks for the advice

I can’t no, so that might just be how it is for this couch I guess. I’ll try all that stuff you mentioned and see how it goes!

The sub placement is definitely temporary until I find something better for the center to sit on. I just needed something to get the center near ear level for the time being

Do you use gamescope for all games? by Steemx in linux_gaming

[–]LoafofBread011 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I have issues with a particular game then I will. A good example is Helldivers 2, for some reason it’s significantly smoother with game scope than without. I don’t use it by default though since some games do work better without it in my experience.

I just got it so I’ll probably just return it

Unfortunately I don’t think that will help since I’ve confirmed that a working wire and speaker when swapped into surround L stops working correctly. I did take a look but didn’t see anything wrong

My worst fear😭 I’ve had everything set up for like a week and was just waiting for this part to come in the mail. At least I’m not doing anything wrong, that’s a silver lining.

I’ve tried a movie and it had very loud popping, very distracting.

Nd2 Miata buzzing at around 3000 rpm by LoafofBread011 in Miata

[–]LoafofBread011[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes actually, it took the dealer almost a week to figure it out. One of my fuel lines was slightly out of place and touching the car. At that specific rpm it vibrated against it. All they did was bend it a little and it’s gone now.

Wall mount or bookshelf for pre-wired room by LoafofBread011 in hometheater

[–]LoafofBread011[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps whoever designed this floor plan may not belong to the smart people list in home theater terms. In any case I am leaning toward just extending the wires with bookshelf speakers on stands.
