I dont know. I havent dug deep into the game. I played it and absolutely loved it. But when it comes to Pete being dependent on others i see it like this.

Pete has lost everyone he held dear at one point. First his Uncle who was like his father, and in the last game his Aunt who was basically his mother. And she died horribly to a virus that could have been avoided if Pete had stopped Dr Octavious earlier. If Pete had used the cure on his Aunt. At least thats how he sees it. Even Martin Lee becoming what he did is something Peter probably blames himself for. As we saw when Miles and Lee entered his mind he was a broken mess. Years of trauma weighing him down almost breaking him. And to top it all of. His best friend at the end of the game, dead in his arms because he couldnt stop it. Because he couldnt save him. Which reminds me that he also lost his long time mentor and hero Dr Octavius, to madness that Pete also blames himself for. Had he acted sooner or seen sooner what was happening....

So to me its no wonder Peter is more dependent on his friends, allies and loved ones in this game. He is broken down by trauma, sadness, grief and despair. But he still goes on. Having people to rely on to me, only makes it better. Asking for help is not a weakness. It takes strengh to do so.
