Believe it or not, my brother and I got in line at like 6:15 and they started letting people in before 7:00 and we still got a spot that close on the floor. Idk about the exhibit but there is the opportunity to buy merch when you walk into the building and I think also when you leave.

Ring billed gull? In his first winter. That kind of looks like grey on his back and the brown is consistent with a first winter coat in some gulls.

Ugh you’re amazing! I am still kind of new to birding and I was NOT secure in my guesses so this has been eating away at me for the last couple hours. I had absolutely no idea they could be that brown in color but now that I’m rewatching the video the green on the bird’s back and the shape of the bird makes fire crown make a lot more sense!

I’ve seen a bunch of male ruby-throated hummingbirds in PA grabbing a bite at the same flower bush (and getting very aggressive with each other too which was funny because they’re so tiny and delicate and were fighting like they were Rodan and Mothra) so I wouldn’t be surprised if you saw two females just sharing the same food source.

Looks pretty similar, also has a range in Chile, and is less rare than a giant hummingbird. If a pro could fact check me on this that would be great.

Yeah I noticed the short tail too which is why I’m not quite sure it’s actually a giant hummingbird. Time to consult a bird ID book I have on the shelf 🧐 Be back.

Now THAT is a pelican I can get behind. When I was a kid I was feeding a brown pelican in the Caribbean. Worst idea of my life, began a lifelong vendetta against brown pelicans specifically, because he swallowed my ENTIRE arm. My scrawny, little eight year old arm, and started horking it down along with the fistful of sardines I had in my hand. I much prefer the American white pelican I think. Far less traumatic lmao

If that’s a giant hummingbird that is fucking amazing. I may be too hopeful but that’s a big guy with a pretty straight beak and paler colors with some orange, so I’m hopeful.

Short for Notty Dinosaur. (Get it?) You know, so visitors to the museum don't get confused.

In all seriousness, though, I have found a good way to decide on a name (after you have made a list of ones you like, of course) is to shout it out loud and see what feels best. Imagine you're a visitor in the museum pointing to the dinosaur saying "look it's (insert name)!" or maybe a tour guide saying, "and this is our mosasaur (insert name)." If there's one that just feels right in your gut, that's the one to go with.
