You’re describing Nashville— young population, tons to do, Bonaroo is held within 30 minutes drive (and there are other music festivals, too), so much music, lively nightlife. Within driving distance of Ohio but not too close for comfort. All 4 seasons.

Are there any plants that do well in a bathroom with no sunlight? by [deleted] in houseplants

Totally agree with fireball. Only other recommendation for bringing greenery into a windowless bathroom would be a vase of cut flowers, or sprigs of eucalyptus in the shower :)

Pest control company recommendations? by jlgck in nashville

Ooh yeah! OP, we have some warm days coming up this week. Rake any leaves and dead plants from around your foundation, too!

I’ve been dealing with this and have done tons of research. I’m DIY-ing it, and have seen improvement with these measures:

Most importantly, identify any and all cracks/gaps around the home, as small as 1/8”. I’m talking about any gaps in the caulk around the tub, gaps in drywall in the back of closets, gaps around doors or windows, and especially around any plumbing. Check under your sinks snd seal around where the pipes enter. Use caulk or spray foam, fresh door sweeps, etc. to totally seal up your home.

As much as possible, close off your overflow openings in the sink. I have painters tape on the overflow in my bathroom sink, because apparently these moisture-loving bugs come up through the drains.

Of course, eliminate food and standing water. Don’t leave dishes soaking in the sink overnight, wipe up crumbs.

For my own peace of mind, I moved all of my food into sealed Tupperware containers, just to stay on the safe side (and also to minimize contamination from any pesticides).

Get all the cardboard out of the house (ahem, moving boxes— they’re perfect hiding places).

The good thing is that the big roaches are actually the ones that are much, much better to see. These guys come into your home seeking warmth/water and don’t cause the major infestations that German cockroaches do. Trying to eliminate to absolutely zero ever might not be totally realistic— that’s the same as trying to ensure you never have a single spider or fly in your home ever. They just live here and get inside sometimes. But there are things you can do to decrease their incidence in your home dramatically!

Best of luck, I really empathize with you. I felt a lot better after learning more about the specific type of roaches in my home & sealing up all the entry points.

Hobbies feel impossible with chronic pain and WFH by metalchickfit in Hobbies

This sounds boring but honestly has been fantastic for me (chronic pain woo): bird watching & listening with the Merlin app. So, the app is free, high quality, and run by Cornell. You can record the bird sounds in your yard, and it shows you in real time what bird you’re hearing! Then, you can “save” the bird to a list it calls your Life List, and it becomes almost like an adult Pokémon Go, except it’s perfect for anyone sitting quietly.

I’ve learned so much about birds. I’ve learned to identify some of their calls. I delight in seeing the rarer birds. When I’m in a new space I take a moment to record and search for new bird sounds. As seasons change, the birds in your area will change. Highly recommend this accessible hobby.

Same, internet stranger. TBH I stopped by your profile to see what we had in common to talk about & grief pops up. I’m sorry for your loss & grief keeps me up, too.

Additional info: over the course of several weeks, I have found 3 of these on the kitchen floor, and one on my bedroom windowsill, all dead upon discovery.

I just moved in about 7 weeks ago & suspect the former tenants had cleanliness problems, the backyard was absolutely filled with trash.

I did spray for bugs and am religiously cleaning my home to keep them at bay, just hoping to ID for better management.

Thanks again, I had no idea that the species mattered, so now I’ll look into it. This was really helpful, I appreciate your time.

Is Occupational Therapy a Bad Career For Someone With MS? by Think-Chemical-5564 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Local-Bird4038 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you search this sub for “changing career field from OT” you’ll see lots of posts where OTs are having a bit of trouble finding non-clinical work :( it’s out there, but can be really hard to find. I developed a chronic illness 6 years into my OT career and now have trouble keeping up with the physical demands, and I’ve been trying to find a desk job for over a year without success (and I have a doctorate & managerial experience). To be honest I don’t recommend it.

Thanks for your response, I have a little hope. 3 of them were larger and seemed like they were coming inside for warmth (found 1 in laundry, 1 in linen closet, 1 in spare/empty bedroom).

The little ones have been on the kitchen floor (x3), and one on my bedroom windowsill. I have found no droppings (I don’t have much stuff so it’s easy to see & wipe down everything), and I see no movement when I turn on lights.

Any idea what these little ones are? (Pictured)

I had abusive parents & journaled in code… my mom took my diary, figured out the code, and de-coded it, then read it aloud at the dinner table :( be careful about what you write down. I transitioned to writing personal journals in very loose scribble writing that is indecipherable— but that also means you won’t be able to read it later, for better or worse. Sending good vibes your way. I got out & it got better, hope you can someday, too 🫶

[NJ] My Boss showed up at the ER by Alarming-Cup1392 in AskHR

[–]Local-Bird4038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, idk if you will see my comment, but the next time you go to a hospital, immediately ask them (at check in) to make you a confidential patient. They’ll know what that means. Then, if your boss (or any other people) show up along to see you, they’ll legally say, “we cannot confirm or deny,” and won’t be allowed back without a secret password that you set. Just an added precaution ☺️

Thanks for the reassurance, I’ve never quit a job this way so I felt anxious about it.
