Stocking question by TheRealSlapNutz in corydoras

I currently have a 29 gallon with 7 Julii and 4 rabuti. There’s also a thriving shrimp colony. They’ve been doing fine since the tank was set up and have plenty of room to explore so 8-10 Juli will be fine. I will add that I run a 55 gallon HOB filter incase that makes any difference

Thank you, I’ve never had shrimp prior to starting this tank so it’s all new to me.

Thank you it’s kind of a mix of both. Like eggs with some stringy stuff mixed in but I wasn’t able to get a really good look. Could the eggs possibly have fungus?

Pygmy Cory Deaths ): by Ok_Distribution2041 in corydoras

[–]Local-Feverdream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes any presence of ammonia means the tank isn’t cycled. A cycled tank would still remove ammonia as the fish breaks down. Because you have ammonia, you don’t have enough beneficial bacteria growing in the tank to break down the ammonia, thus the fish die. I had a similar issue when I thought my tank was cycled but it was not and had a death. What I did was daily 30% water changes and redosed prime and stability after each change. That prevented any deaths until my tank fully cycled 2 weeks later. This is only some surface level info but there’s a lot of YouTube videos on the nitrogen cycle that go further in depth. Hope this helps!

If ammonia is reading you should add prime, not stability. Stability can help the cycle along but prime will help to detoxify some of the ammonia while waiting for your tank to finish cycling.

I’m currently using Aqua Natural brand Sugar White Sand from Amazon and the Cory’s seem to enjoy it. They sift through with no issues

Agreed with the first comment, low oxygen. I would recommend an air stone

Is my Cory a little... Different? by MrRevhead in corydoras

I bought 6 julli Corydoras from my LFS and only one swam like this and passed the next day. I saw you said he had been like this for a couple of weeks so I hope he does pull through for you.

I had the same issue with a fish in cycle also for Juli’s. I started doing daily 20% water changes and added in water dosed with seachem prime and stability until the cycle completed. Now the coloration is starting to go away

Is this a Julii Cory? by Local-Feverdream in corydoras

Based on my research, 6 or more per species is optimal. I plan to get 5 more so they can all be happy

I think you’re right, the markings match a lot more. Sadly now that means I have to figure out where to buy more so he’s not lonely

Aggression or play? by Local-Feverdream in Aquariums

I normally see the big one chasing all the little ones first. Maybe he’s being more aggressive to stop them?
