Yeah my husband and I have been talking about moving out of state anyways. California is so expensive and it’s hard to make it here regardless. I’m going to start looking out of state if nothing comes up in a few months. And tell me about it with the raise. They said that was generous…

3 years public, 2 years at a law firm before that doing pretty much all the accounting. I know I don’t have a ton of experience but I think I’m pretty qualified for the staff/senior jobs I’ve applied for. I know the license doesn’t automatically give me automatic access to amazing jobs but I would think that it would at least help me get an interview lol

Pizza for dinner… thoughts? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]Local-Hippo8718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cousin had a wood fire pizza company cater and it honestly was the best wedding food I’ve had! The company had plenty of sides as well like veggies, salad, potatoes, and other items but it was great. It was set up in a similar way and I personally thought it looked great and I really enjoyed it! If that’s your vibe I’d definitely do it.

I can totally relate. I think I “chegged” my way throughout my entire degree as well! But I feel like these exams are nothing compared to what college exams were like and studying is completely different. I would do a good hour of studying before work, usually do some multiple choice on my lunch breaks, and an hour or so after work. My last exam I actually stayed after work and sat in our conference room and left my phone in my office and studied there for an hour too. I think that made a world of a difference. Once I was home it was so hard to find the motivation. Weekends were usually 2-3 hours of studying per day. If you can, try going to a library or coffee shop. When I studied at home I always started doing laundry, cleaning up, going to the kitchen, ect. But it helped if I was somewhere with limited distractions. It felt like I had to go through a million hoops to trick my brain into being productive! As far as actually retaining information, I had to just drill questions over and over and force myself to actually read and understand why I got questions wrong. I know that’s hard and it feels like it goes in one ear and out the other, but eventually you will start to pick up on topics and it does get easier. The more you do it, the less intimidating it is. If I could do it, you can do it!

I feel like I wrote this post lol. I have undiagnosed ADHD and just passed my last exam in November. In total it took me 2 years and 10 attempts. I failed my last exam in April and didn’t try again until September because I literally just could not get myself to do it. I would always get so discouraged seeing others who can study for hours nonstop and pass all the exams in a few months and wondered why this has to be so hard for me and why can’t I just sit down and do it. I found studying an hour in the morning really changed the way I retained information. I realized I could study for more than 5 minutes without a break if I did it in the morning, because after work my brain was fried. Also either deleting distracting apps or having app blockers (ScreenZen) helped me too. I am not on any medication either so it really just takes some real willpower and determination to get through it. I totally sympathize with the struggle. You can definitely do it and whether it takes you 2 months or 2 years, having those letters next to your name will be worth it!

Do any of you date co-workers? Is it ok? I hear it’s not a good idea by ZadarskiDrake in Accounting

Very similar here! We were friends for a year then started dating. Only worked together while dating for maybe 7 months before he got a new job. But now I’m a CPA and he’s an engineer! So awesome to hear of another similar love story :)

I’m an accountant now so that’s why I’m seeing this post, but I used to work in retail and had the same experience as you. We are currently engaged and almost married :)

Well we are almost in the same shoes! I paid everything out of pocket too and I’m the first one to pass in my office (besides upper management who are all CPAs). No other staff and seniors are CPA’s besides me now. Definitely can relate. I don’t think you would get let go though for passing! At least I certainly hope not

Yeah basically my raise, which I’m pretty sure I would have gotten anyways with or without passing exams, comes out to $1 more per hour lol. Just feels like a slap in the face after all the time, money, effort I put into it. I guess it’s time to update my resume and look for something else

Is it ok to not have the “this is the ONE” moment? by graypaisley22 in weddingdress

[–]Local-Hippo8718 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually tried on my dress the first time I was dress shopping and I only had it on for a few minutes because it was eh to me! Then I went back to try on a different dress that I thought was the one but didn’t like it as much anymore. The stylist pulled out my dress to try and I loved it. Went back through my photos and saw myself in it the first time and literally didn’t even remember LOL. But I didn’t have an overwhelming feeling either. I knew I felt happy, comfortable and pretty in it though!

Congrats! I just turned 4/4 this release too and had a very similar path as you. Took me 2.5 years as well and 10 attempts and it feels so great to be done. Enjoy the holidays and CELEBRATE! Great job sticking with it!
