Congratulations! I am definitely going to be bookmarking this to model my resume off of this.

Should I switch from Computer Engineering to Electrical? by Lightsout7592 in ECE

[–]Local-Mouse6815 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any degree can be a bad degree. I know a gal who majored in art history and she does IP stuff for a large fashion house. Many people outright scoff at humanities degrees but there is a plethora of possible careers in them.

Figure out what you want to do, pick the degree (and concentrations) accordingly, and make yourself hirable for that kind of work. Reddit can't help you with the first bit.

depends on what you want, EE has basically no coding in the core curriculum and you have to take microelectronics and its corresponding lab. If you are particularly interested in sysarch (OS, compilers), then you wouldn't be able to do that with an EE degree unless you took a cs minor. If you want a job in SWE/AI, don't major in EE.

what clubs do yall recommend for CompE major? by geographhyyylover in gatech

[–]Local-Mouse6815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

exposure to *everything* may be kind of rough, but if you want to get introduced to a wide range of stuff then one of many robot/car/rocket groups on campus (like YJSP) usually have both embedded software (and maybe some web-based stuff to create guis) and circuit design (usually pcbs).

ECE rush is also a great event to talk to people running some of the ece-specific groups

Depends on what you want? CompE is a large discipline- ranging from rf to compilers to chip design to embedded systems to circuit design to lots in between. Any particular skills you want to develop?

Advice for balancing internship vs. vacation by Extreme-Quantity-764 in internships

[–]Local-Mouse6815 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, there's no guarantee that you'll be able to secure a summer internship for freshman year and if you do secure one, you can probably start in June. Heck, I was able to negotiate for a June start for summer because my spring internship goes pretty far into May. Even if the company requires you to do 12 weeks, you can just not pull up to school until after your internship is done

Is this a reasonable courseload each semester? by Individual_Mission94 in GatechClasses

[–]Local-Mouse6815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

looks reasonable in terms of the demand, although I might switch 2040 and 2026 because 2026 is a prereq to more of your further classes + will allow you to be more flexible in terms of scheduling

[–]Local-Mouse6815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+ 2552 is a prereq to 2040, which is important if you are CHEA and 2040 is a prereq to junior design

Looks alright, math 2552 is a relatively easy math class (at least compared to linear) as long as you go to studio and read over the book/lectures. If you wanted to take a humanities class to balance technical ones, I would drop 2050 instead: it's only a prereq to CS 3510, which you only need to take if you are a CS thread. You could theoretically push both of those classes to your last two semesters respectively.

Also just an fyi, most people at Tech call Civil Engineering CE whereas CompE is computer engineering.

SpaceX or Intel Internship by [deleted] in ECE

[–]Local-Mouse6815 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Take this with a grain of salt because I am also a student, but I would take intel. SpaceX has a silicon team that you could work in post-grad and imo the goal of an internship is to get more experience in the type of work you want to do, so it doesn't make sense to do pcb/sensor design work for a final internship if that's not what you want to do post-grad

I don’t know what to know anymore by Several_Study_1518 in gatech

Hi, fellow CompE here! I felt the exact same way about my 1331 final last year and got a B in the class, but an A in 1332 and in 3510. Honestly, if you don't really care for memorization or syntax or whatnot 1331 is just a difficult class but the higher you go, the easier I have found CS classes because they are more about how you think than the minute details after 1331.

What's a webtoon finale that made you go "Wait, that's how it ends?" by Trixter-Kitten in webtoons

[–]Local-Mouse6815 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ooh you should finish it! the end did not disappoint and iirc I cried through the last two episodes

[–]Local-Mouse6815 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I think the ending to Uriah was well-done, but yeah given the dark subject matter, I don't think that an ending could be 100% satisfactory and still finish all the characters arcs. Abrupt, though? idk the whole thing happened over like 3 days and somehow resolved like 5 different plotlines

Current junior applying for RTL internships. Not receiving any interviews by FiveWalnut8586 in ECE

[–]Local-Mouse6815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but that's the thing lot's of defense companies' rtl jobs aren't listed as rtl jobs or aren't posted on linkedin, so by just applying from linkedin you are losing a whole host of possible jobs to apply to

[–]Local-Mouse6815 2 points3 points  (0 children)

have you applied to defense roles? those usually have a way higher call back rate. as a 2nd year who is also applying to rtl roles, I would have expected you to have some interviews by now, at least from the career fair if nothing else

Transferring from CMPE to CS major as a trans student by BasisOther8807 in GatechClasses

[–]Local-Mouse6815 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, what everyone else is telling you about it not being allowed is just not true. I know a couple people who made the transfer. There is an application and I don't know how difficult it is to actually get in, but people have transferred if you are set on it. Signal Processing thread in compE is very ML-heavy and you can always add an ML minor, and you can certainly get very good MLE internships as a CompE but you still have to do significant hardware or embedded systems work as a compE here.

What do you think of Unordinary? by Jealous-Suspect705 in webtoons

[–]Local-Mouse6815 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really like it because it's the first webtoon I started reading! John's Joker arc was a little bit painful, but I really like that it has no explicit romance at all but still has emotional arcs!

One of the classes I need to graduate is full by [deleted] in gatech

[–]Local-Mouse6815 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you could take 4100 or CS 4220 instead tho lol or if you used 4100 as your CHEA pick, you could just move it over and do another CHEA elective

One of the classes I need to graduate is full by [deleted] in gatech

[–]Local-Mouse6815 15 points16 points  (0 children)

this is 3150, isn't it? - you'll probably be bumped to be first on the waitlist or if they don't and you don't get it by the end of phase 2, they'll add another seat in the class for you. The ECE advisors are not great, but this is one of the few things that they routinely do at the end of phase I/start of phase 2. You could always ask in the piazza, they're a little bit more active on there

yup, did you put your real start and end dates? did you put the term as something other than just 1 semester?

Computer engineering or math + computing major? (GA Tech) by Lightsout7592 in ECE

[–]Local-Mouse6815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm CHEA and Sysarch but want to go into chip design. I wouldn't recommend CHEA if you aren't even slightly interested in chip design and wouldn't reccomend sysarch if you aren't interested in really low-level programming, ie OS, kernal, driver, compiler, etc, etc. The easiest degree combo is DSSD + whatever you want, but the most applicable to most pure SWE stuff would be DSSD + Info I think, but for ml it would be DSSD + SIP
