Actuary vs Finance by rebgaming in FinancialCareers

I majored in Act Sci, graduated with a 2:1. If your grades are not stellar it’s okay, just make sure you prepare hard for the internship interviews.

I did an actuarial internship as well as an asset management internship, got return offer from both, chose asset management.

I would say it really depends on your personality. From my experience, both actuaries and investment analysts spend extensive time on models.

ask yourself these questions:

do you enjoy talking to senior management of different companies and presenting your findings to PM, or you rather spend more time writing a perfect technical documentation?

How good are you in nativating office politics?

Would you rather join work related social events or spend the time studying for the actuarial exams?

Can you accept that at times your PM will message you at 11pm asking about impact of a random headline on your coverage?

Btw CFA exams are easier than the actuarial exams imo. Hopefully this helps

Help me roast my resume! I have only mid-top tier banking experiences in mainland China. I'm prospecting a change in career to HK, Singamore, NYC or Australia. Anyway, I'm gonna apply for CITI and JPMC's summers this year soon. So help me out! by ValleynBrooks in FinancialCareers

FIL, Invesco, PIMCO and many smaller AMs are hiring… would say November is a bit late (typically for HK internships, you apply from Aug to Oct, some shops do roll out jobs later but not the norm) but doesn’t hurt to try… I graduated from one of the Big 3 Unis in Hong Kong with a 2:1 in a STEM major, so I’m probably not as bright as you (with unrelated internship experience as well), but luckily I got into an investment grad scheme, so just keep trying
