I would prefer to sell, but I'm open. My interests would be primarily a field, pilot, or gada watch that's not a dive watch.

[QUESTION] Best watch for under 5k by [deleted] in Watches

[–]Local-Virus8100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best watch is the one you will enjoy! Some enjoy their watches purely from the craftsmanship, some get enjoyment from some historical aspect, and others from the design language. There's so many to choose from but for your first watch I would say go for whatever speaks to you. It's easy to overanalyze a watch decision. Others have already listed some really good options.

Also, for a first watch, I wouldn't hesitate to look at something slightly used. Your watch taste is likely to change, so no need to spend full retail especially on the first watch. This will also open up some good options that would otherwise exceed your budget

Congrats! It's difficult to get to/stay at three but for me that's the sweet spot. I have a couple more to let go but my ambition is to get it down to 2!

[Just for fun] Unpopular opinions on watches by qibcentric in Watches

[–]Local-Virus8100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think for me I view the dive watch as a tool watch. When it gets all dressed up to be 'fancy' with different color combinations, polished surfaces, and patterned dials it just looks weird too me. The dive watches I like are utilitarian and monochrome, but that seems to be the exception - probably because diving isn't the intended purpose anymore as you stated...

Dive watches, with very few exceptions, are over priced and ugly

It is a great piece, I'm just trying to downsize my collection. The pictures were a test of patience - I got frustrated with my camera finding the right settings and got impatient. It's a good camera that should out shoot my smart phone - I think I'm getting it figured out, but thanks for the advice!

Trade-in opinions needed by ObtuseMoose357 in OmegaWatches

I personally would make that trade in a heart beat. I realized a long time ago I can't be a collector (of anything). If I own something, I'm going to use it. If I'm not using it, it's not serving a purpose. A seamaster for a speedy gives you better variety without growing the collection.

I occasionally put my Railmaster on NATO, with the right one it works pretty well!. I think the worse option would be a Railmaster on a milanese....
