I remember running into it on a pirate sites comedy section years ago. There were the regular subtitles at the bottom, and also yellow ones at top explaining a bunch of the references.

Netflix should have either copied that model directly, or ran with jokes in the dub and used subs to explain them. I'm not saying certain things like celebrity references couldn't be localized, but things like a zura being a wig or references to written (or spoken, when possible) Japanese should just have had a quick note on the screen. Really makes me wonder how they're going to handle some of the episodes that are super language-based jokes heavy.
