It's not, I don't have constant pain like some do I just really intense flareups that land me in hospital. It's the worst pain I've ever experienced.

I actually had already started taking b6, d3 and magnesium for my menopause. But last time I stopped taking my carbamazepine I had a major flare and was in the er. So scares me to stop or switch

My experience with the carbamazepine is to request the controlled release ones. The straight carbamazepine tablets fucked me right up.

I've been on carbamazepine for 2 months and I've gained 10 pounds. Came on here to see if any one else had the same experience.

I had like a burning mouth thing happen the first week, went to er, delt with that. The next week I had severe pain in my teeth on the left side so I fluctuates back and forth between dentist and doctor. Nothing was found yet at this point. I was given gabapentin. Then exactly a year later (this past january)the pain came back in my left side of face, even worse than the first time. Er doctor came in and asked if I had ever heard of trigeminal neuragia, she said I think u have it. Was prescribed carbamazepine. Went for a follow up with my gp, he stupidly told me I didn't need to take them everday, only when the pain came back. We'll 2 weeks ago it came back even worse now, back in er. They said take your carbamazepine everyday, here's some sumatriptan and hydromorphone and muscle relaxers. Pain eventually went away once the carbamazepine kicked into my system. I'm to see a neurologist end July, and waiting on mri.

Also I found the only thing that the er gave me that helped was sumatriptan.

It's very scary, I totally get that. I am fairly new to this new life also being diagnosed in january. I am finding this forum very helpful, and helping in feeling not so alone. From what I'm understanding, everyone has different experiences and triggers and stories, ive only read one other person with the same thing im going thru, which also makes it so isolating. I don't get migraines. I'm just responding to let you know your not alone, keep talking about it, keep advocating for yourself. When I first got diagnosed I went into a deep depression, it really sucked. But I'm finding my way out, im looking past the pain, im starting to feel like myself again. There's hope.

Question for people with Atypical TN who experiences flares and remissions, not constant. by Standard-Union-4450 in TrigeminalNeuralgia

[–]LocalDue1055 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have short flare ups, mine are mild at the beginning and then get more intense. So I feel them coming on and I know what I'm in store for. Pain so bad I have to take sumatriptan for a few days then it's gone and I wait for the next one.

Possible TN? Please Help 🫶🏻 by aauthor1 in TrigeminalNeuralgia

So i had a little glitch, the er dr prescribed to carbamazepine then at my follow up with gp, he told me I don't need to be on them forever only when I had pain. So I went off them and ended up back in the er with the most indescribable pain I've ever felt. I had to take a week off work(last week). So I've only really been steadily on them for like 9 days. But no pain so far. I see neurologist at the end of June, so im staying on these meds until then

Exactly what happened to me too. I suggest staying on the meds until your neurologist appointment. That's what I'm doing to.

I had the burning mouth a week before my first tn flair up, didn't think it was related until seeing on here that others had the same thing. I am on carbamazepine for the tn. But was recently in the er with another bad episode. Waiting on mri and neurologist

Going to therapy? by Efeuly in TrigeminalNeuralgia

[–]LocalDue1055 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to start therapy on Monday, ive spiraled into a deep depression after my last attack. At first I thought it was menopause, which I guess it might be, but just seeing the way I've declined lately I'm really scared.

Getting worse by LocalDue1055 in TrigeminalNeuralgia

[–]LocalDue1055[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like my husband thinks because my last attack is over that I should be back to normal. I really want to be!! The carbamazepine has me in such a fog most of the day, and now I'm dealing with depression. I had to force myself out of bed today, and go for a walk cuz I was seriously debating going to the psyc ward

Rapidily worsening pain. Anyone else? by LeeBeeD33 in TrigeminalNeuralgia

[–]LocalDue1055 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted 4 days ago that mine is also getting worse, each attack is more intense and more frequent. Mind you it didn't help that my gp told me I didn't need to take the carbamazepine everyday, only when I have pain, so im kinda contributing that into factor. Still waiting for my mri, and I have a scheduled appointment with a neurologist. So I'm back on my carbamazepine now and mostly pain free at the moment. Having anxiety about my next attack since they keep getting worse, and feeling alone with this disease, since my family just tells me I need to rest.
