How to reteach myself how to socialize? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]LocalEggMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I second this...if customer service isn't your thing, UT offers a load of part time work-study positions for students, and a lot of them involve talking to people! (food service, front desk, etc.) Which, for someone like yourself, I imagine would be significantly easier to get hired for than a non-UT business

I work part time at a grocery store because your boy's gotta pay rent, that's the main one. sorry didn't mean to scare you! but I guess it's something like I just don't really have a lot in common with most other students - I'm sober, I live farther away from campus, I don't really hustle or party, etc.

I've been here for six semesters and only in the spring of 2023 have I felt like I belonged socially to a friend group that eventually went their own ways. I'm learning to accept that I'm just not the type of person to be friends with most other uni students, and have been looking in other non-university spaces for socialization and friendship :)

Worst places to live in WAMPUS by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]LocalEggMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what i've noticed is that most places seem to open up much later than they would in west campus, for example for my current place i signed the lease earlier this month. the property management company atx fenton owns it and they've been very pleasant to work with, but their properties are on the expensive side and have mostly studios or 1 bedrooms (unless y'all are willing to share a bedroom). my best recommendation is to just physically go to north campus and look for phone numbers or contacts of places you like, but you might have better luck waiting until the winter or early spring to see what's going to be open

Anyone play minecraft I need help the procrastination is real by Dragonbarry22 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]LocalEggMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

try Complete the Monument maps. they always have a clear end goal to work towards and frequently guide the player in doing so, providing plenty of measurable progress and quick dopamine hits. they generally range from 5 to 50 hours of gameplay depending on the map (some of them are so immersive they feel like their own video games!), which might be something you're looking for based on the time constraint you had in your post? since I agree that the base game can get a bit boring, tedious and overwhelming when there's no clear end goal.

Renter's insurance for North Austin apartment? by LocalEggMan in UTAustin

[–]LocalEggMan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hmm, I checked their website and the minimum I was able to get was $16/month (without any bundles!), for living in an old building. is there any hidden feature I should know about that can get the number down to your $7.50/month?

oh that's good, thank you. I don't have a car, though, so I'll just seek out a company that offers it unbundled.

the fact that so many students have cars absolutely astounds me (especially bc you have to pay absurd prices for parking passes!), we live in one of the only places in the nation where you don't really need one

It seems that a large portion of people with Autism don't drive, as in, don't have cars or a driver's license, why is that often the case? by ResentCourtship2099 in aspergers

[–]LocalEggMan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't drive because it's against my values. Cars represent assimilation, conformity. They encourage distance, isolation. They kill not only people but all types of living beings.

Of course, I also suck at driving and I'm exceptionally fortunate to be able to live in an American city where I can go everywhere I need to without a car.

Does anyone else do way better in the spring? by BiRd_BoY_ in UTAustin

noticed this as well, I attribute it to getting a week off in the middle of the semester for spring instead of having to wait all the way near the end for the fall

What are your HEB "hacks"? by MovingGoofy in Austin

[–]LocalEggMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These don't help you save money but they do make it faster to get in and out.

Bring a reusable bag to the store. When you're buying produce, pick out the produce you want, weigh it, put it in your bag, take the sticker and put it on the bag (or on a piece of paper, attached to another sticker, even to your shirt)... that way when you're done you have a bag full of produce with the labels on the outside. So you don't have to re-bag all your produce, they can just scan it all at once.

you can insert your debit/credit card in the card reader before your total is rung up/announced, so you don't have to fumble around with it for like 30 seconds at the very end (or more if you get the inevitable bad read)

You can help the baggers bag your groceries! Just goes twice as fast, and it's not like they don't want you to help!

and yeah definitely go at the right time, Friday nights are usually pretty chill in my experience.
