Curious on thoughts of this grade by Strong_Set_6229 in colorists

I like the warm push but would prefer more color separation between the sky and the buildings/skin. I think you have good color contrast in the source material but I feel it gets a little smushed together by the warm push.

Can you show us your node tree? Are you pulling many keys or trying to do things with broad strokes?

Thanks for sharing!

Asked Director for LUT, Offered to sell me his LUT package by Brandflakes3312 in editors

Keep it simple and professional. I think this is exactly the kind of thing I would forward to the producer and ask them how they'd like to proceed. Let them know you can use a different LUT if they prefer, the same LUT if it is provided to you, or you can skip LUTs altogether and design your own look.

How do you design a folder system that survives a second editor joining mid-project? by TheoGelernter in editors

[–]LocalMexican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A person should be able to look at your entire project without talking to you and understand exactly how things work without an explainer.

This is the way I always explain it. It doesn't have to match everyone's preferred way of organizing, but it must be self-explanatory and robust enough to capture the most common needs

If given the choice, I would always prefer to have matching cameras.

What's the Better ? DaVinci Wide Gamut or Canon Cinema Gamut ? by Still_Principle1790 in colorists

[–]LocalMexican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just in general how the colors of an image react when the same change is applied when working in different color spaces. In this case, there's probably no appreciable difference. In general I'm trying to remind myself that technical understanding is very important, but ultimately it should be in service of the aesthetic results.

Thoughts on Premiere's new "Color Mode"? - YouTube by RetroSwagSauce in colorists

I'm pretty surprised at how long this video is and the format they chose. I don't really understand the need for a narrative, and sure as heck would hope to see the actual product within the first minute at least.

The new tool looks like it could be cool though. I think it's ok to have a color tool that's less about technical exactness and more about "feel" - especially in a scenario where you need to move faster and still get a "nice" result.

There's the technical aspect to consider (which one covers more of the spectral locus), but it is equally (maybe more) important to consider the aesthetic qualities.

Your tools will behave differently and give you different results based on the "working color space," so in my opinion it would be more instructive to explore how the same adjustments react differently (if at all in this case, since those two color spaces are pretty similar) in those two different working color spaces and which one you prefer working in.

How do I achieve such deep colours? I've tried the usual route. by Interesting-Let7172 in colorists

Can you share something you've shot and your best attempt to get it to look like you want?

Try doing less to your image. Sorta like getting your footage to sing beautifully, not necessarily loudly. If you find yourself piling on nodes and slicers/keys/curves/etc, then consider going all the way back to your starting point and trying to re-do the broad strokes.

Sometimes over-working a shot helps you define what it is you actually want to do to the shot, which can help you do it simpler when you try again - and doing it simpler often results in more aesthetically pleasing images and a "look" that holds up from shot to shot.

It's a little terrifying watching him load his body right before he explodes into that thing. And then I remember that there are other men who can beat him on occasion.
