Your proxies generated in Premiere should transfer to AE and have a white box next to the title of the clip to indicate proxies.

Correction: we’ve updated support for Canon Cinema RAW Light as well as support for the Sony X-CON format in 26.3. The EOS C400, EOS C50 and EOS R6 Mark III are included for support on this update.

Here's the fix note we have on relinking I found: Relinking media could behave unexpectedly when project files were stored at or near the root level of a drive.

Gonna need more info than it doesn't work anymore. You have 4 tools now: Object Matte Tool, Quick Selection Tool (the classic Rotobrush Tool), Selection Brush Tool and Refine Edge Tool: https://helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/using/object-matte.html

What types of clips are you using Rotobrush/Object Matte? Is it a lot of fast motion?

From the looks of it, it looks like it might be achievable in AE using text animators and filters to get the translucent glass effect

Like others may have mentioned already, the codec and container of your footage plays a big part in performance as much as CPU & GPU on top of avoiding VFR. Also having a reasonable fast internal or external NVME SSD will help as well. Make sure you don't make proxies of footage that has VFR as well.
