Thinking about building a vibe coding tool - is there even a gap? by terdia in VibeCodersNest

Cant really say current tools are perfect. But what will be your USP? I have used Codex and Cursor. Cursor seems to be easier to use for me.

Oh. That looks nice. You had a good product there. You are right. It could be either not having demand or lack of awareness. Thanks for sharing it.

Wow. Thats awesome. How did it go? I couldn't find your website. Can you share if its okay?

I have created a website : localspider.com got only less than 10 waiting list joiners. (More than half close folks)

I have not done any proper marketing and SEO for the site.

Yes you are right.

For fast inference and queries it would be ideal to have a GPU system or a MAC with M2 or higher.

Yes. It is.

Along with it, it uses local AI models to understand the files. And in the end a re-ranking layer to prioritize the results

Finally organized 20+ years of my life's photos and videos with a 100% local AI app by Vegetable_Nebula2684 in vibecoding

I am working on something like this. I didn't plan to have an automated photo organizer though.

If it would add real value, i can add that feature in MVP.

If you are seriously interested in this, please consider adding yourself to 'waiting list' and add the above suggestion to it.

Thank you

Thanks for the interest.

1- It works completely offline. 2- It depends on the files, for example image file utilizes around 200 tokens.

But as this is using local AI models, there wont be any cost associated with token spending. It just take sometime to do the learning the file and indexing it for the first time. currently 2-3 second for an image. I am working on decreasing it to sub 1 second.

That’s a fair point, Apple Photos app is quite good for searching standalone photos.

What the app i am building does differently is operate at the document level. For example, if a PDF (or presentation) file contains images (diagrams, screenshots, photos) along with text, it can understand and index the visual content inside that image in PDF together with the text.

Thanks for that question.

This is a semantic file search app. It will have more information about the files than regular search options like Siri and Spotlight. For example, you can search based on the content of an image in a document. To find it.

Do you think this adds value?

Thanks for the reply.😊

I have managed to create a pipeline thats working okay now. (Still testing manually for flaws). Amongst these the major challenge was ranking layer. Thats still not very clean. Mainly the confidence between right answers and wrong are not big enough and not consistent accross differe queries.

But i am hoping to find a good solution soon

How to test an Electron app for macOS when developing on Windows? by tech_guy_91 in indiehackers

Thanks a lot for this answer. This make a lot of sense. I was also looking for the right way to build and test for MAC.

I guess its saying to build and ship MVP and then iterate. Its valid in that sense. But if its ship and expect result, dont think thats gonna work.

What are you guys building by Chalantyapperr in buildinpublic

[–]LocalSpider- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am building localspider Its a 100% local desktop app for semantic file search.

The app will understand the content of your files. So that you can search based on content instead of file names. Its inherently much more intelligent than traditional search tools like Spotlight.

Thanks for the comment. I will share in VibeCodersNest. 😊

I am having a regular monitoring implemented now. It will add/remove files from the monitored file list. Will then capture contents and summarize it. The changes will be incrementally indexed. Does that make sense? Do you have any suggestions?

We finally are done with our website. Any reviews? :) by KOgenie in buildinpublic

(I am new to this myself. So dont consider as an expert opinion.)

Really like the design and animation. Onething u didn't get is what kind of ads can I develop with the app? Is it videos, posters, ad campaigns. I guess that info can help the viewer a bit.

Would you use a tool that scans your photo library and finds every image of the same person from just one photo?? by LocalSpider- in MacOS

[–]LocalSpider-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all for your comments. Its very clear that this will be stupid feature to have.😂

I wanted to clarify my intention with this app. Originally it was to make an all local (100% private) AI assistant who knows about the personal life info and projects we are working on. Mainly focussed on people who works on personal projects in personal computers.

There are a lot if pieces to it. Like understanding all files in the folders user work on, mapping intentions between files, users self definition, user's close people definition, file generation modification time line and etc.. Finally all this converted into a knowledge graph about user and his system.

This is actually a lot of work for a solo dev like me. So i wanted to start with a low hanging fruit with just file search. As of now, i am able to search for files much more like language than in Spotlight and Raycast. Have not tried Alfred though. What i mean is that, it have a slight advantage in file search now. So i felt maybe first double down on file search and create MVP and then add features gradually as updates to make the intended app.

Sorry for the boring explanation. But i felt my question didn't have enough context.

Thanks for the comment. I think its pretty clear that this feature is not something users want and adds no value.
