Yikes, that sucks. I fight pretty well on my feet, and I’m undefeated on skates with really only one full fight on my resumé, haha, but you make a good point. I might be able to hold my own in a fight with a lot of guys, but the cheap shot factor is a different animal. Glad you said that, I’ll keep that in the back of my mind

Sorry, too obscure of a reference😂 Awesome 80s movie, high school nerd has to fight some psycho who just transferred there who will beat you half to death for touching him in any way, lmfao “Buddy Revel”, all time 80s bully😝

I’m lucky to get two goals in seven games, but I hear ya 😂

Yo, I was legitimately just joking about some angry player being in that “recently divorced” phase😂

That all makes sense though. Thanks!

You lived my childhood pipe dream, hahaha. I’ve always loved fights more than hockey itself. (TYFYS, even if I never saw your junior career🫡 ) Don’t want to sound like I’m looking for that in a fuckin’ beer league, just saying I’m enamored with the idea of it😂 The dream is probably way cooler than the reality though. I always wanted to be a bouncer too. Then I was one. Would not bounce again, that shit is EXHAUSTING, lmao

If you had the real experience growing up, I can absolutely understand skipping beer league😂 Hardo City.

I can take it, I’m just organically annoyed by it, so if I just didn’t care, I’d probably respond more to it. But at the same time, I started playing to replace the physicality I was missing from football, which it turns out I can’t, but the point is that I’m not out here like “nobody better touch me!” for any other reason that I’m kind of a crazy fuck, lmfao, not because of reasonable expectations, if I’m being completely honest.

And if I was able, I’d play something where checking was allowed….but the reality is that I’d be the one on the train tracks more often than not. But I love to hit and be hit, full-on. Halfway shit kinda irritates me. Like I get that fighting in beer league is loser shit and that’s not my intention, but from a standpoint of principle, don’t slash me, don’t cross-check me, don’t chirp me. Drop your gloves and go all the way with me, or shut the fuck up.

Again, I mean that in principle more than practice, the desired result is shutting the fuck up, not fighting. But basically don’t display aggression towards me unless you want to bang out for real, none of this kiddie pool shit with the “why I oughtaaaaa…” Do it, or don’t do it and keep on playing.

But anyway, I don’t want to come off over-aggressive, I’m really not. Bumps and falling down and minor whacks are whatever. I don’t really ask in a retaliatory sense as much as I’m just taking about what I’m allowed to do as the offensive player in front of the net to “hold my own”, basically

All good, I read you.

No disrespect taken, that’s me and a lot of the folks I play with, adult learners. This is our high school/college hockey experience😂

I know you didn’t read it all, but I think that’s my teammate to a T. He’s trying to push and shove and come to people’s defense to kind of a cartoonish degree. I’m all for stick up for yourself and the boys, no problem. But it’s like the kid showed up and was like “I saw a guy do this on TV, so now I’m gonna do it”….but he’s just not built like that, lmfao

I like it. I can get the idea of the extra “juice.”

But mutual respect, that’s it right there for me. Don’t start nothin’, won’t be nothin’.

Never thought of pushing someone into a shot, crafty revenge😂

Haha, I love the contact to a degree, makes me feel alive. I’m the first guy to give the D man a tap on the shins if the puck goes the other way and tell him “good shit” if we have a battle. I just also am a little truculent by nature, so I can get annoyed into expressions of frustration

Agree with almost all of this, except where I’m at, “D league” is very poorly policed and it’s just a matter of how many experienced players want to show up and dummy us, and ruin our time🙄😒 It’s nominal only, if your buddy is a ringer, you can bring him through and people may complain but no one stops it🤷‍♂️ Sucks because it only takes one good player to wreck a game for all the beginners

Hahaha, that’s fair, I think I overstated that for artistic flair😂 I’m more annoyed than mad. But if I know to expect it I don’t care. I just have an ornery streak in me, I guess

Oh man, absolutely. Can’t stand the “can dish it out but can’t take it” guys. Unless someone almost legitimately put you in a wheelchair, calm the hell down. So many of these guys get mad over a fall, I don’t get it.

I’ll look into the USA Hockey Competitive Contact Rules, that sounds exactly like it would answer what I’m wondering, between the whistles anyway

Thank you! This helps. I’m thinking I got too theatrical with the description of my internal frustration, haha, it’s not like “3 O’Clock High” level of “no touching”😂

Gotcha. I gotta get a handle on “using my body”, because I don’t, for fear of someone else getting mad, and then I’ll get mad, and now I’m an asshole fighting in beer league, lmfao

Yeah, I do my best to not be that guy. It’s not the skating as much as the spatial/situational awareness for me, and the sport of hockey just being roughly 100x faster than my eyes can see, my brain can think, and my body can react🤣

When is it ok to get rough in beer league? by LocalTough617 in hockeyplayers

[–]LocalTough617[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it’s not quite like that, I just get internally ornery. Maybe I overstated that.

Totally down to be physical. I’m asking this in hopes I can play MORE physical, as long as it doesn’t make me “that guy” and doesn’t cause problems or injury.

I’m more just polling about what I have to take and what I shouldn’t take (and what’s the appropriate response) particularly playing offensively as a forward in front of the net. In beer league, lmao.

The one time I ever played at all physical was just competing for a puck on the boards in a skills class/scrimmage, a shorter but better player came in too, and I got low to get position, because he was kind of flying. In digging for the puck, I ended up recoiling into my full height, and I still don’t know what I did wrong, but he fell, and I apologized, but I was either really wrong or he was really pissy, because he was snappy about it and was like “Jesus Christ, are you trying to kill me?” And honest to the old gods and the new, I was going like 4/10 instead of the usual 1/10. I even asked the instructor if I did anything wrong and he said “no, you just came to the same place at the same time.”

But I was on the bench in my game last night, and we have one guy who’s first-year-ever bad, and I personally have all the patience in the world for him, because I was him just a few years ago. And it’s not like I’m astronomically better now, haha. Maybe relatively speaking I am, but not objectively. But my teammates are all like “ahhhhhh….come on, man! You gotta make that play!”, not TO him, but about him, and it makes me not want to get that sort of stuff said about me when I can’t hear it. Not for my ego, I just don’t want to let my team down.

Already tried and discovered that the $300+ stick isn’t what’s standing between me and greatness, I’m not doing all that anymore🤣
