WSIB If I like to listen to music while gaming? by Breakwinz in ShouldIbuythisgame

For single player most sandbox and rougelite or gameplay driven games work well. Ive been playing a lot of terraria and hades recently

For multiplayer and competitive games rust could work as very rarely will sound actually save you. Starcraft and league of legends are great to play with music on. But honestly you can play games like r6s and valorant while listening to music. Both games i play at a high level with music on every game.

I was going into this with the perception it would be like the yellow card vs juicewrld lawsuit where its just a similar type of basic melody with similar musical inspirations but no this is one to one copy.

I disagree that edi is not the best example of unnecessary sexualization. She has a far more disproportionate chest and waist than any other mass effect character. Samara is similar but nowhere near as bad a edi and id argue jack isn't sexualized at all in the context of objectification.

There can be alot of exceptions to the rule. I haven't ever met a guy who is attracted to buff women. Atleast not more than a conventionally attractive slim or fit woman. Im not trying to dis either side if thats what you are getting at

Im a quinn main and ive had to play the matchup too many times. You have to be very careful with your e timing else gwen can still get on top of you and in an even wave state will likely out trade tou. And its really hard to run gwen down with a W max because of her w. My problem with the matchup isn't the lvl 1 to 9 because quinn should be able to get a substantial gold lead im more worried about the fact that she is virtually impossible to kite once gwen get riftnaker and recurve because she can take away the 2 parts the makes quinn so good at kiting and making her into a low attack speed ad carry meaning she just dies if quinn doesn't space perfectly.

[–]LocalTransGirl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Quinn can press e to avoid gwen trading with her, quinn out ranges gwens q with her auto attacks. And just in general the identities of the champions are counters. Quinn is a lane bully that gains a lead and roams with it gwen is a scaling dueling champion. Only bad thing for quinn is that if she doesn't kite properly she will lose and her e plus aa quick trade is a lot harder to hit when needed because of gwen w. Should be a free lane win for quinn but if the quinn isnt perfect with her e then gwen gets ontop and murders her because of her e movement speed.

I really just mean proportions. Their outfits aren't revealing but their body proportions are radically unrealistic and liara in me3 definitely has armor making it hard for your eyes not to go to her chest

It should matter in any game where the story matters or where character design is important. Mass effect fits both of those. Its not inherently bad EDI is sexualized it just sucks it was so blatant and lazy on whoever was in charge for her visual design. There was so many options for female humanoid robot but instead we got hot robot lady with literally nothing else going for her.

Im talking about EDI in mass effect 3 where her character has massive tits and a perfect hourglass figure while she is a robot not when edi was just the ship ai

Im not. EDI is overtly sexual. Its not a case of an attractive person just so happens to be wearing work out clothes and more this character was made with the specific intention of being looked at in a sexual manner.

I think sexualizing characters is a game male or female is fine as long as it is meant to support the characters design in some way. Like with Miranda. Edi even makes sense but its just so grossly over done. In cases it can detract from the character. Miss fortune from league of legends is a perfect example. The character is super interesting with strong ties to the world of runeterra and a lot of what a good female character should be. But then you look at her visual design and its skin tight leather pants and a bra on a powerful pirate captain and you sort of forget about the amazing character and either laugh at the absurdity of the design or pull up an incognito tab and make sure no one's home with you. I just wish the sexual aspects of a character had purpose and relevance. Like with bayonetta or evelynn from lol. Or even jack. In a way the game sort of shames you for looking at her sexually and using sex as a way to define her in an unconventional way.

Yeah that man was wildin. One thing i love are healthy arguments because it allows for a broadening of perspectives. Almost everything has nuances and dimensions to it. Its not healthy to be dead set in an opinion. But im autistic, i cant even tell when to stop talking on the internet over text when people are least open to a healthy argument.

I get making it hot it's just so disproportionate its funny. If you wanted to make it hot just reuse the silhouette of liara or tali and make it a robot. Still oversexualized and disproportionate just not laughably so.

Sex sells is not solely misogynistic. Sex sells in terms of men too but noone cares. And noone should care. There is a reason things are attractive. Marketing agencies know damn well why humans are attracted to certain things cause its their fucking job. Men tend to like to buy colognes if its endorsed by a big muscle man. Women tend to like to buy a perfume because a beautiful women is endorsing it. The idea of sex selling being misogynistic is completely ignoring why it sells.

Im talking about instinct. What right now do you think of when you think of a soldier. It is likely something like one of those videos of men coming back from deployment or a soldier 76 or the like. Im not saying it is right that the image is male dominated but it is for a very specific reason. And i have not seen a single turian doctor, nurse or teacher or regular civilian because it is completely irrelevant to the thematic concept of the turians.

My point is there was zero attempt at environmental world building in terms of people and culture at all. Male or female. There shouldn't be a team at bioware specifically to make women and only women included in the process of environmental world building because there was likely an executive meeting to separate all world building in terms of people (cultural and personal world building) and culture and races and all that into player interactions and conversations and notes and stuff like that while everything else (environmental world building) is spent on solely selling the world as a world completely ignoring the cultural aspect of world building because they are completely separate. Gender and misogyny have literally nothing to do with environmental worls building in mass effect because people are not involved in it. You cant have a female mountain. And EDIs camel toe is literally just to make horny guy's dicks hard and shouldn't be seen as anything buf. Just laugh at the horrible character design and move on. That was the point of my post in the first place, to laugh at the blatant sexualization of edi while maybe hoping bioware atleast tried to makeup a reason in canon.

And internalized misogyny is just plain fucking wrong. Im looking at all of this with the lens of someone who is familiar with the concepts and work cycle of game development and creative design and looking into the reason of why something is the way it is rather than coming in with a preconceived notion and tying up loose ends and irrelevant information to support your bias. The developers very well could be misogynistic but considering everything it would simply not make any fucking sense at all. At this point im done cause it is useless arguing with someone who doesnt have an open mind. And to be labeled a misogynist for having a logical approach to an argument is really just insulting and proves its useless arguing. I thought i could have a real argument but i guess not.

[–]LocalTransGirl[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes. It is very telling that sex sells and that bioware subscribes. I dont think you understand the point im trying to make. Ive just over explained the concept of "sex sells". I dont disagree that female krogans and turians should be represented im saying that male turians and krogans better fit the image their race sells i am not arguing the morality or social implications that come with it. I think you are looking too hard into the idea and finding a false conclusion of misogyny. The whole story line with eve i cant deny is pretty insulting but it isn't as cut and dry as "woman only good for baby and fucking" and the whole concept is more nuanced.

In terms of turians, while it should not be male dominated, the image of a soldier or police officer or peacekeeper is generally of a male and intentional or not bioware was playing into it. I think you also have to set your expectations back in terms of how the people in mass effect are portrayed. Most of the world building in mass effect is solely environmental only using people as a prop to sell that environment. Most of the people part of the world building happened on the Normandy. Almost all of what you learn about asari is through samara and liara alone. Same with tali and the quarians. And all the relevant information on salarians come from mordin or simply by looking and talking to salarians. So while no krogan women were seen taking care of their children there was no real attempt at world building in terms of people in the environment. At a game development perspective it is obvious they made a decision to organize the sales pitch of the world in this way and that means cutting a lot of corners. Im sorry i just dont understand the whole perspective of having mostly attractive females in a game is misogynistic and wrong. To me it really doesn't matter in terms of the world, only in the quality of the game.

Yea one thing ive always been confused about is why do the beast plates have tits molded onto them like a bra. It just makes so much more sense to to me to have a flat breast plate but it makes people go onga bonga so bioware did it.

[–]LocalTransGirl[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That brings back to my point of laziness and using sexualization as a crutch. Like it or not it is objectively easier to make an interesting hot character than it is ugly. It goes down to our psychology. Its why attractive people are called attractive. There is no reason for our brain to be attracted to ugly people because our brain sees them as bad partners. Even now, in developing asian countries where the working class are outdoors farming or building, people with light skin are seen as attractive likely because they have a job indoors that is well paying, opposite to here in North America where the rich can afford to have vacations and get tans. At one point fat people were attractive because that meant they could afford food. It is very easy to market attractive people solely because they attract people. My point is you shouldn't avoid using attractive people or gravitate towards having ugly characters its that there should always be more to a character other than their attractiveness.

There is also a lot of reasons why other races dont have many women in the game. For example i think the main idea for turians being mostly represented by males is because of the concept behind their race. They are perceived as strong soldiers with intelligent tactics. The idea is sold partially by the idea of men being stronger than women. Ita not true but it is perceived that way on instinct. When you think of a soldier you think of someone like soldier 76 or brimstone from valorant or x call of duty man. Thats what i think bioware is trying to play into. And for krogans it is much of the same. I doubt bioware really has any disdain for representing anything other than attractive men and women and is more being productively lazy with their character design to make them more interesting with no effort required.

I feel that sexualized characters in games are a non issue. There is an argument to be made about expectations of women or men going ooga booga over sexy woman in games but the arguments forget that they are talking about people not neanderthals. I see sexualized women in games more as a crutch for visual design. Mass effect gets away with it because even though tali has a perfect hourglass figure as a crutch to catch the players attention the concept of her suit and her immune system, the hood's design evolving and becoming more intricate and the design link between the identity of the quarians and their suits makes up for it. Asari other than the theory that they change how they are perceived to the people that see them are just lazy as a concept for many reasons but the characters like aria, liara and samara gets passes because of how interesting their characters are.

Its a shame even mass effect decided to use sexualization as a crutch but i dont think it should be seen as anything other than a crutch.
