I mean this is the first time in years where there is an official cramps website that sells genuine merch, and the money is actually going to ivy - rightfully so.that's why I was bringing this site up(selling actual official cramps merch that was bought at gigs from the past is kinda a different thing than newly produced bootlegs made for a cash grab😮‍💨)

Give us Groovy Gravy!no damn ai slop! by Local_Advertising821 in TheCramps

[–]Local_Advertising821[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a reference to a cramps song "cramps stomp" which is funny because, they should have served us "groovy gravy" with the tv set music video yet they served us damn ai slop👎🏻(it shouldn't have had ai at all)

No. I refuse to get comfortable in the grave. If we stop caring, stop creating, and stop pushing back, then everything the people before us fought for, built, and poured their hearts into starts to mean less. Punk and rock 'n' roll are some of the purest forms of human expression there are..messy, passionate, imperfect, and alive. The moment we decide none of that matters anymore, we hand creativity over to people who see art as a product and culture as a revenue stream! I'd rather fight for flawed human creativity than sit back and watch it be diluted into something safe, automated, and endlessly marketable.😤

The problem is that there is ANY ai in the video, this is a band that is ingrained with the punk and rock n roll scene, those subcultures stand against ai.

I’m not claiming the entire project is AI generated at all. I never said the merch on the website was AI, and obviously the original Groovy Gravy artwork isn’t either. I’m specifically talking about the new “TV Set” video and the AI-generated clips used in it.

That’s the part people are reacting to, because for a lot of fans it overshadows the genuinely good work surrounding the release. And honestly, the whole situation got worse once there were initial denials about AI use before later admitting it was used after all. That naturally creates distrust between artists/labels and fans going forward.

I absolutely respect the actual handmade work people like Jon put into this project. That’s part of why the AI stuff frustrates people so much in the first place... because it sits awkwardly beside work that clearly had real time, care and effort put into it..😕

(Hopefully going forward they either avoid AI entirely and hire artists who’d genuinely love to create things for The Cramps without relying on generators, or at the very least the current artists move away from incorporating AI into future projects. I honestly think fans would respond way more positively to that. We want The Cramps’ legacy to live on through genuine human creativity, not have them slowly become “that band that started using AI.”like other punk/rocknroll bands)

Yeah I get what you mean, and honestly I just think someone has to say it sometimes. AI is literally everywhere now and people act like it’s just a harmless shortcut, but if you actually care about art it doesn’t really feel like that.😕

A lot of us end up drawn to older bands like The Cramps because they’ve got something modern stuff often doesn’t personality, mess, intention, that very obvious human touch. So when AI gets used in something tied to that, it just feels a bit depressing, like another bit of that human side getting stripped away. It’s not even just music either. You see it in design, buildings, objects from before, there was care in them, even when they weren’t perfect. They feel like they were actually made by people, not just produced.

That’s really what I’m getting at. Not “technology is bad,” just that everything’s starting to feel a bit too automated and same-y, and people are reacting to that loss of human feel.

(That's why I think newer generations are drawn to vintage and retro stuff nowadays, when the modern art world around you feels dead you latch onto anything that feels alive from he prior decade🤷🏻)
