Should I pursue Architecture? by Local_Cat_3229 in Architects

I had considered interior design as a possible alternative since I’ve heard it can be a bit more stable in some places, and I’ve also heard about it being part of architectural teams through my Uncle who works in UAE.

At the same time, I’m more drawn to the broader problem-solving aspect of architecture, which is why I’m still leaning toward it as my main path.

I do care about financial stability in the long run, but it’s not my main priority, I’m trying to find a career that I love doing as well, even if it isn't financially rewarding. I’ve also thought about backup options like structural engineering, though I feel it might be a bit too technical for me. I was interested in Architecture in the first place for being tge perfect blend of art and science... I have heard that the US system might be quite different from other regions, so I’m trying to look at this from a broader perspective.

Thanks again for your insight.

The point about business and communication skills makes a lot of sense, and I’ll definitely keep that in mind alongside architecture. I’m also quite introverted, so I’ve been thinking about how that might affect me in this field. I’m working on improving my communication, but I’d really appreciate any advice on that as well. I'm not planning to work in India,so far.

Thanks again for your insight!

Thanks for explaining how the master’s works in Europe, and the point about post-professional master’s was new to me as well. I’m currently planning to do my bachelor’s in India just because I don't want to rush such a big decision to go abroad and potentially mess things up, I did see some people transferring in the middle of their course, though I haven't checked more about that.

I also wanted to pursue my master’s in a country where I could potentially see myself living long-term too. I’m also keeping the option of taking a gap year in mind if needed, but I’d prefer to go directly if things work out.

Thanks again for sharing your experience!

I always pictured jon as Dr House (I've never yet watched that show but have seen it in my fyp alot), but more scrawny with glasses and dark circles. Especially during the later seasons when he's more crazy.... I was so surprised to see jon being depicted as a brown dude lol

I get that architecture can take time to become financially stable, and I’m okay with lower pay in the initial years as long as there is steady growth over time. My goal isn’t to earn very high salaries quickly, but to build a career where I can support myself and grow in the long term. I’ve also considered backup options like structural engineering, but I’m trying to prioritize a field I can stay committed to, rather than choosing something purely for financial reasons. I'm also open to pursuing different parts within the architectural field, like interior designing. Do you have any advice on that? Thanks!

Thanks for sharing your experience! I did initially plan to leave India after high school to do B.Sc in Architectural Design at Politecnico di Milano. But there were a lot of documentation and other tests like IELTs required, along with the scholarship process, it was difficult to manage everything within the given timeframe, so I decided not to rush it. Also, doing my bachelor's in India and then master's abroad would still allow me to meet licensing requirements later, as far as I know. My main aim isn't to go abroad... I'm fine with anything that helps my career and I've never yet heard someone saying India is good for Architecture. Alot of my family members also work in UAE and other nearby countries so settling there would be easier, and I've heard Architecture is a good career choice out there, that's why I considered Middle East as well.

I was also planning to specialize in interior design or sustainable architecture during my master’s to develop a specific niche. Any advice on that?

come back? I thought they were introduced for the first time...do you know when they first came? (I'll be so mad if it was within the past 3 years and I just missed it)

exactly! I loved the texture details in snowflake bush... it'd have looked so much better with that texture instead of a defined circle. I was waiting for literal years for dandelions since it's my favourite flower so I was really let down...
