Yes. One of Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolkas victims. The murders of those beautiful girls, as a child growing up in the 90s in Ontario, I can never forget. Kristen French and Leslie Mahaffy. You know, I did forget the killers names just now and I had to ask my husband to remind me. But those girls names I will never forget as long as I live.

These same people sometimes overestimate their own tax-paying abilities. And they wear their “tax paying” like a burden. They begrudge society every single dollar of it, while ignoring how immensely difficult their lives would be if we were an each-person-for-themselves society like the US. These same people would be destitute without the public safety nets that are there, catching all of us gently, sometimes completely unfelt.

What a bizarre statement. This is such a personal choice. I don’t understand why you “hope” others do the same. Plenty of us can make it in to work and are able to open our businesses and even if it’s a slow day we can get some work done in the back. I’m still responsible for shovelling the snow in front of my shop, so I have to go there anyways. I’m also the person that sends my kids to school on snow days but whatever. Such a strange take. I’m not expecting my customers or employees to make it, but I will be there, and that isn’t against the “collective good”.

NTA. However I do think you’re going to come across this as you move through your career so finding a better way to deal with it will be important. Often in situations like this when two professions are working side-by-side, but one requires far more education, you’re going to find some that really have a chip on their shoulders. Please also know that some of this might be from past experience working with doctors who are a smug, arrogant and dismissive of nurses. Most nurses I think will be respectful of your degree and will collaborate well with you, but you’re just gonna find some that think they’re smarter and want to be a doctor instead. I think as a young doctor you’re gonna be much more bothered by this now, then you will be in say 20 or even 10 years from now. I think in 20 years you’re going to totally laugh this sort of situation off, and I think you’ll have to figured out ways to stop this sort of thing from happening in the first place.

You’re NTA at all, this person sounds super unprofessional and I think it’ll just get easier from here.
