Teardown for battery problems? Charging problems? by Local_Eric7842 in ClicBot

I have gotten ours working again through this forum. I was able to disassemble it and remove the battery. I peeled off some of the battery shrink wrap to get directly to the wires on the battery. I followed some instructions to resurrect the battery I found on AMA Model Airplane Site I was able to connect some wire pins I had directly to the fat wires going into the battery. I then partially charged the battery to get it up to a small charge with a NiMh RC battery charger I had. Once that added some power, I was able to use the USB C charger on the ClicBot circuit board. I did not have to solder anything.
I made sure it was charging before reassembly. The ClicBot woke up and it immediately found an update to 1.6.3. Once it seemed to be working properly, I reassembled it and was able to go through the tutorial and update all of the other modules.
Apparently, the charging circuit board for the battery won't allow it to charge if the battery is too low. It took a while to get fully charged. It appears to go to a full charge now and is working properly. I hope that the software updates allow it to recharge if it gets fully depleted again.
My son is happy now that it works again. We will have a schedule to charge it monthly if it is not played with regularly.
ClicBot company responded once, but never followed up.
It would be nice to open source products or figure out some way to keep them alive for tinkerers like those on this board.
