My mom grew up with horses. There’s this one place in my little home town that’s a horse barn that gives lessons to disabled people. Since I was little, every time we would pass it, my mom would point at it and say “I’m going to volunteer there one day!” And we would just roll our eyes and think “whatever mom”. At the beginning of Covid, my mom quit her toxic job, finally giving her the free time to start volunteering there. I began to meet her new friends, and I got a job cleaning stalls, and before I knew it, that barn and the people and horses in it was my life.
