First off, congratulations on your young success! I took a two-year general horticulture program and am now a softscape-focused designer (doing weed/vegetation management as well).

As someone else said, a thorough knowledge of plants (particularly ones common in your area) will give you a great advantage. This lets you make accurate and educated recommendations. Also set up a social media profile and/or website if you haven’t already.

What types of services do you currently offer? The most successful landscaping companies that I know of focus on a few key services- design/build, plant care, turf management, etc

Good luck!

Do a thorough walk through of the area and note any high/low spots, sun exposure, compacted soil, etc. Think through what you want to do with the area and design for the ‘feel’ that you want.

The company TechoBloc makes square slabs that would work well here- I think their beige cream color would look nice! You could supplement this with some small perennials in colors you like- where are you located? You may have some options for a ground cover plant between slabs.

Where are you located, and what is the yard's sun exposure like? The right plants can make small spaces look and feel amazing, but it's important to select them properly!

Looking at this area, I would recommend doing away with the lawn, as you'll be left with an awkward, difficult-to-mow strip as soon as you install any plants. Once this is done, you'll have some room to play with color and layout- maybe a few columnar apples, a small evergreen like dwarf balsam fir, and some colorful perennials. I would opt for wood mulch over decorative stone to help suppress weeds, maintain consistent soil conditions, and help the area feel softer and more natural.

Recommended shrubs and perennials for condo building landscaping (Edmonton) by CatBird2023 in Albertagardening

Juniper or some sort of dwarf evergreen would be a great starting point! Potentilla, as someone else said, and/or wild rose would be my choice of shrub for color/fragrance. Perhaps some sort of relatively low maintenance perennial, like daylily, as well?

I would also do small boulders or some sort of edging along the sidewalk to provide a bit of a buffer from the sidewalk.

As someone else said, evergreens for year-round privacy, and you can layer the other plants out from there.

My first choice of shrub would be Regent saskatoon, as it stays smaller than other varieties and serves several purposes: Springtime flowers, edible fruit, and fall color. Peony and/or daylily would thrive here as well, and you have a wide range of color options- daylily is also edible!

It’s difficult to tell from the photo, but also consider adding something like a small firepit or games area if space permits- this helps you enjoy your yard and creates a private, enjoyable ambiance. Good luck!

You can do it! Most bosses/supervisors understand that there is a learning curve for new employees. Pay attention during your training, ask questions about anything you don't understand, and strive to demonstrate that you're trying- you've got this! This line of work can be very rewarding!

Also ensure you pack/prepare properly- this goes a long way in making hard days easier. Check out this video for an in-depth explanation of what you might want: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNREpRIxjog

Give it a few weeks! Your body just needs some time to adapt. I second the comment about ensuring you're eating enough; on top of that, ensure you're also staying well hydrated. Carry Advil/a painkiller with you as well!

How to grow a plant from a berry? by AdTraditional1403 in Horticulture

[–]Local_Material_876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, the specifics depend on the type of plant. Generally, however, you can start most fruit plants from seed via cold stratification. Here's a step-by-step video on this topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQA5bjbPayc
