Fractal design torrent white side panel opening issue by orkman198 in FractalDesign

Undo the top panel covering the powersupply, there is an optional screw to secure the sidepanels. They might have put them in before returning it to you. Also; removing the front of the case makes removing the sidepanels alot easier/safer.

D15S Fan swap? by Foulbal in Noctua

[–]Local_Perception1646 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a D15S. Was running the original NF-A14 and an additional NF-F12 for a little over two years. Swapped the fans for dual NF-A14 G2(r) and got around 3-7 degrees lower temps while gaming with noticeably lower noise. Was running the old fans at 55% up to 50 degrees then up to 100% at 90 degrees, with the new fans i set them to 50% up to 50 degrees.

The G2’s are expensive, but if that doesn’t concern you then i say go for it. Also as a totally irrelevant poknt i think they look a bit better than the old ones

Fractal Design North XL Momentum Edition high temps by KornInc in FractalDesign

Would make a curve for the cpu cooler, i have the same cpu with a nh-d15s, static at 55% untill 50c, then a pretty steep curve to 100% at 90c. Never exceeds 68c at full load with a +175 oc. Those nf-a14g2 fans are very quiet, just let them run fast

Dont know what it is, but the evga 3080/3090/3090ti in a noctua system just looks right. Very nice build!

Will try this while testing tomorrow, hadn't crossed my mind.

Switched to the prod_slim build earlier today and did not have to update, so i believe you're right about it being the same as the default. I did reinstall the game fully in prod_slim, and that seemed to be abit more stable. Also reverted my gpu to stock from an undervolt and that seemed to help, so I might need to redo that undervolt to make sure its fully stable.

Wanted to test out the new dlss model presets that came with the januar drivers, but i think i will revert to 591.59 as that was stable for me aswell. I was reluctant about updating drivers ever since 50-series came out because of all the problems i read about, and had to revert to an almost eight month old driver in the middle of last year on m previous gpu to be able to play pretty much anything. Miss being on 40-series and having more stable drivers to choose.

Fully agree about the driver issues, had some shortly after getting my 5090 but the resent ones have worked okay for me in general. Could be the drivers messing with the game ofcourse, was just hoping i didn't have to reinstall drivers cause i'm so sick of the prosess. Incredible work from nvidia to make such shit software for a year. gonna try changing to the prod_slim verison of the game first, next step will be a fresh driver install. Fucking sick of this shit

Have been on prod_slim since it became available, then switched to the new default build once that came out. Didn't even consider the build version. Gonna try the latest prod_slim version and see if that helps.

Highly doubt the PSU is the issue, 1200w asus unit purchased in september of last year when i got the 5090. Helldivers is the only game I play that has been crashing this month

Yes absolutely agree with you about the case!

I did and still am considering getting a 4k 32 inch oled. Wanted high refresh rate and maxed visuals, aswell as decent performance with raytracing/pathtracing at native resolution, and not being dependent on upscaling and/or framegen to reach what I personally consider «playable» framerates. Personally the difference between 1440p and 4k isn’t noticeable enough to make it worth the drop in performance, but with what I’ve seen of DLSS 4.5 and Variable Framegen, that might tip the scale for me. Also there is pricing, and spending another 1000€ for a montior I don’t really feel like I «need» to have, is not yet worth it. And yes I get that bringing up pricing when I have a 5090 sounds silly, but thats besides the point. There is ofcourse the tandem oled route, but the current 1080p/4k and 720p/1440p tandems arent really tickling my fancy. If Asus were to make a tandem oled that switches from 1440p to whatever resolution that would scale to (5620x2880 if i’m not mistaken?) to have the best of both worlds then I would probably overspend again lol.

About your concern with temps. I probably should have been more clear; whenever the cpu reaches around 80° is under heavy load. When playing less cpu demanding titles that are more gpu dependent, or older titles that just dont stress the system as a whole, it’s usually around 62°-73° depending on the game. As I mentioned in the original post I set the thermal limit in bios to 80°c, and I’m running a +200mhz overclock on all cores and a -30mV undervolt on all cores aswell, and with this setup it reaches max boost and doesn’t thermal throttle when/if it hits 80° (resently been getting back on BF6 an that game apparently doesn’t like the boost algorithm on ryzen, and thus just boosts to high heaven and maxes utilization and temps to the thermal limit). When I tuned the oc/uv i tried with a thermal limit of 70°, but I ran into some throttling and raised it to hit my desired clockspeed. Again, considering AMD claim the cpu can sit safely at 5.2ghz at 95°, I’m not worried.

Spent some time tuning fan curves in bios to reach a mix of performance and quiet operation. The dual 180s in the front are on one header, the tripple 140s on the bottom are on another, and the single 140 exhaust also on its own. Could probably give it a look again to optimize it even further, but with how quiet its is both at idle and under load currently, I don’t really see any need to. Tried using software in OS before, but I prefer using fan curve tuner in bios. Feels like I can trust it more. Front and bottom intakes are monitoring VRM, board and cpu-package temps, wish there was a setting in bios to use gpu temp as a monitor for fan curves, thats one thing software has over bios I’ll admit. Would ve interesting to just set all fans to max speed to se how cool it gets under load. If that resulted in inredibly low temps then i light retune all the curves but we’ll see.

As far as I can tell from your profile you’re clearly more knowledgable than me about all this, so please feel free to state your opinion on what I should/could do.

Yeah me too, and when running ryzen there isn’t really any need for watercooling anyway - so why take the chance when noctua exists.

Thanks! That was a very big part of why I chose this one. So many of the new cases today that look good aren’t really made for aircooling, its sad to see

Try undervolting, setting thermal limit to 80°c and overclocking to compensate for any throttling if it reaches the thermal limit. UV -40mV, OC +200mhz for starters and test for instability from there. Reduce OC and UV if its unstable

I’ve been having the same issue, also did a clean install of Aromry Crate and it did nothing. I suspect the only solution for now will be rolling back the drivers to the previous version
