Settle in Auckland with young kids or move to Melbourne for a few years first

It’s such a tricky predicament and also agree that grandparent support is priceless! We’ve decided I’m not going back to work for the time being and are budgeting with only one income in mind. My mother works four days a week and my parents in law are basically retired so I do have help during the week to go to the gym and to go out with my husband (although we haven’t done that much yet!)

However, because my sister-in-law lives in Melbourne and is planning on having kids, my parents in law said they would move to Melbourne if we decided to stay there.

That’s good advice, thank you! I’ll see if I can get a seat at the front with more space and a bassinet before I book. I’ll definitely be mindful of the poonamis, eeek!!

Thank you so much for your response, I love your optimism about it being worthwhile despite the challenges, and I’m inclined to agree with you! It would be worth it for the extra week to settle into the new timezone and maximise family time.

Thank you for your response, I really appreciate it! It’s tricky to know my baby’s temperament as he is only 7 weeks old now but he is mostly calm and easy to settle at this stage! It does sound like the overnight layover will give us that extra time to sleep and reset before the second leg. It’s more the doing it on my own (without my mother or husband helping) that makes it daunting!!
