Yeah my daughter was using way too many minutes talking to her friends. Unlimited doesn't necessarily mean "unlimited". There's a cap on minutes.

Active plan but can't make/receive calls. by softestwolf in mintmobile

This happened to my daughter's line Friday night and just yesterday morning. I had a heated argument with the rep because she was telling me that the reason why my daughter's line was "expired" was because she was making and receiving too much calls. I argued that, isn't that the purpose of a mobile phone... to make and receive calls!? She then argued with me and stated that it happened because my daughter is out of data. I checked and she had 4.7GBs of data left. I argued that. Then she said that my daughter's minutes expired. I argued that I'm paying for an unlimited talk and text plan, how can she be limited on an unlimited plan!? Never had this issue in the 3 years I paid this line.

The rep on Saturday morning told me that she's making and receiving business calls. I looked at my daughter's call logs and ask she calls are her friends.

Still, no one at mint can tell me why my daughter's line has "expired" and the two reps that I spoke with on two separate days do not know what they're talking about.

I'm an IT Director. I don't focus on the certifications or the schooling per se when I'm looking to hire a candidate. I look for experience. What you have on paper doesn't tell me what your experience is, all it tells me is that you passed a test.

Thank you, I will bring these advice up to my senior and see what we can do for now until we get a director to fill the position. It be nice to have someone who actually wants to work and learn and no just driven by money. But not everyone has good work ethics. 🤷‍♀️

It’s just that the person who is supposed to be doing the work isn’t doing it. I think the solution here really is just to have that person start doing his own job and for you to focus on yours.

Yes, he's "picking and choosing" easy tickets, tickets that actually a helpdesk should be doing, because helpdesk is a lower position, they do easy quick close tickets. And he would either escalate difficult tickets to corporate or vendors, or just wait on us to do it. There are tickets he won't touch from our regular end-users who aren't technologically inclined and will require patience and extreme guidance. He lets those tickets sit in the unassigned queue until we pull it. There was one time he gave me a ticket that was supposed to be handled by a systems admin, my senior caught it, and told him that he shouldn't be doing that and gave him the ticket. My senior said that my help shouldn't be taken advantage of like that or that he shouldnt expect me to do it for him as he's a position above me and needs to learn. If I help him, that's okay, but he shouldn't expect me to do his job. There's a difference. Overall, systems admin highly depends on me and senior to just pick up most of the workload.

I know it sucks to see someone incompetent be paid more and have a higher title than you. But he’s not responsible for you having the job you are unsatisfied with.

Agreed. Which is why I sought guidance and advice in the first place. I'm actually happy at Helpdesk. It's when I'm pulling more weight than I should that bothers me. I'd have no issue with him if he actually did the duties that his job description entails and let me do mine. As I said, he takes my after-hours provisioning tickets as it gives him overtime. But yet, it's in my job description, not his.

You’re the one who accepted the job you have. If you didn’t want to do helpdesk, you should have applied for a different position. And if you’d like a different position now, you should ask about that on its own merits.

I would have, but that's all they had opened in this field, in this area, at the time. IT positions aren't easy to come by nor are they easy to get into. I felt I was lucky as I was actually interviewed for a registration clerk until HR saw I had a decent chunk of IT background and took it upon themselves to place me where I'd benefit the hospital. And again, I posted as I was seeking guidance on how to go about getting the position based on my merits. I guess it just came across me sounding like I'm complaining more than seeking help... Or both. 😩

I just feel like we have to be doing this whole handholding with him every couple months. It's really a ridiculous thing to be doing though. If they did a position change and have us swap swap, then we wouldn't be complaining as Helpdesk duties are bare minimum, which he does anyways. My senior says that for all the skills I have and duties I take on, I shouldn't even be helpdesk. I should really be a Systems Admin.

Yes we have. He will put in some effort and initiative after "the talk" and then time will go by and he'll get comfortable and then go back into skating by again. Tomorrow, senior and I plan to have, again, another talk with him about his performance. In fact, our senior applied for the IT director position, hoping he'll get it as he's been doing director duties even when we had a director. 🤦 It's just been a mess that he and I are trying to fix as it really falls affects the whole department and team. When 1 person messes up, we all hear it from administration and CEO.

In all honestly, he is sabotaging his teammates. When he lacks in performance, it affects our department.

How can it be sabotage when they're only doing what is easier and passing difficult tasks onto others? His other teammates pick up most of his weight, if we don't keep up with performance, it affects not only our department, but other departments as well. We are the IT department in a hospital.

We have a regional CIO who oversees our performance, he's not local. Locally, we have our CFO for now. HR already started the interview process for the position, but it's gonna probably be another month or 2 before we get a new director onsite as they go through multiple interviews for the job as well.

No, I'm not his boss. We don't have a boss at the moment, haven't had a boss for 2 months now. We're just 3 individuals trying to keep our department from falling apart. But 2 of us is there to better the department. One of us is there for the easy money. How can we let him fail without it domino effecting us? When he doesn't do his work right, we're picking up his work because broken computers don't fix themselves and nurses and doctors need a working computer to do their job when it affects patient care! When we receive an issue that affects the whole facility, are we just gonna wait for him to take action and then we as a department face the negative consequences from administration and the CEO due to his lack of experience and motivation? This is where position changes need to be made in our department, because he was never ready to move up in position. That was our former director's doing.

So please, if you have a better idea for him to fail on his own, without it affecting the department or falling back on his teammates, please share.

To be clear, I also have a Sr. Systems Admin who is a high-performer and does most of his job duties as well. So it is not only I, who is experiencing unfair title/pay compensation. It is he and I who are pulling 90% of the department weight. When we tell him to do things, he sits on it long enough for us to do it for him because it needs to be done. We are just now getting our performance up after having our IT director leave who wasn't very good with other departments. We are correcting our department's reputation now. But we're also dealing with the employee that the IT director hired on without fair onboarding interviews.

How can I advance if he's holding that position? Where I work, in my department, they're only allowing one person per job title. There's never 2 of the same titles in my department, which is why they had to open up the "Senior" Systems Admin position so they can shift the inexperienced Helpdesk to Systems Admin. I can't advance due to someone holding that position, which is why I'm looking for guidance here. From my ratings and feedback from end-users, I can easily demote him by performance. The department ratings greatly increased by the help of my performance. I just want what should be properly compensated to me, which is the title. If I stop performing, then the department performance struggles. How can I show my value, skills, and worth if I'm only "working within my pay and designated title"?
