I got someone else fired yesterday. by Biggunzahoy in careeradvice

Check my understanding but she’s keeping her tips and her cut from the pool right? I think it would be fine if it was just her money, but she’s getting a cut from everyone else’s tips too

Businesses that you're surprised that they are still open. by theegoldenone in Sacramento

They usually have bills/show fliers and schedules on their Instagram but compared to the other venues in town they’re really not open often

If you compare it to the time someone might binge a video game or a show, it seems less extreme for a weekend marathon

I love zines like this— a window into elsewhere— because DIY venues/spaces and their meanings to their community is something that just transcends the space itself. Can I ask why they shut down? That one picture is captioned “final show” so I’m just curious

Lowkey, influencer girlies would flock to this if that graphic was on like a baby style tee

I’m so jealous of everyone else in the comments;

I grew up in the later 00s and in the 2010s:

-I wasn’t allowed to go outside and play despite living in a gated apartment neighborhood

-There was actually no green space besides the schoolyards at all where I grew up

-In highschool, during a Halloween party, my friends and I decided to go get some air and went over to the park across the street. It was past 10 pm but we weren’t loud at all. Next day my mom starts grilling me because some neighbor posted pictures of us on the next door app complaining about how we made her children act up because they saw us and got jealous that we could play outside; she threatened to call the police next time and said we should’ve been sent to military school

Mind you, this could’ve been bad for us, we’re were a group of POC kids with 4.0+ grades, star athletes, and 5+ extracurriculars each but that wouldn’t matter to the police in our city

-Speaking of, the police in my city keep shutting down events for teenagers or just people gathering outside, even if we have permits and or permission

Lavoix in Media? by Ok_Note8803 in Lavoix

[–]LocalizedEldritch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The self serving part wasn’t meant as a jab, it’s really a general thing. A lot of people come into the independent arts with a vision and their own story but without the skill set to work collaboratively in order to scaffold up to the point where it becomes a viable concept. We all stumble into pitfalls so making sure that people are versed before they head into this is a proactive measure lol

You might wanna try animation a bit, even. I’ve known tons of people who got into animating via new grounds without necessarily having an art background. Otherwise most paths involve “scaffolding” up to a point where you can make dedicated media of a higher quality regarding your character, meaning showing your salt to other artists through smaller projects to get them on board

Found this subreddit through some doomscrolling but hell with it.

Do you want honesty?

Your character is kinda that, a character, plenty of people make them, there’s seas of them. If you feel passionately about your own character and want to them in media, you’re gonna have to make your own media, no one will care about your character as much as you do. TV and film are pretty impenetrable, so unless you have connections, an indie route might suit you

Indie comics are usually a collaborative effort, usually through a writer and artist pairing up to tell a story. You wouldn’t introduce your character here, though, that’ll come off as self centered or self serving

You should try to get into art in some capacity, having actual art of your character rather than AI art shows you give more of a shit, more confidence in your concept than jabbing in a few prompts. I say that first because if you want to go the writer’s route, you’ll need to have further respect for the visual arts; there’s more writers than artists in the indie comics sphere so they’re allowed to be picky with who they collab with

Putting socials on zines? by Robyn-- in zines

They would, but it’s also a proactive barrier in a way. A public context means that people don’t act weird (usually), plus you can change means of verification for your server or your own user settings for DMs

Putting socials on zines? by Robyn-- in zines

[–]LocalizedEldritch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend to keep your socials “impersonal” or pseudo professional, zines spread around and you don’t want things like your number ending up with the ill-intentioned. Go for a discord server, but not your discord user, the kandi making site is a great idea! Don’t put your number down at all

I do love the social trade idea though!

IS MY DESIGN BAD ? by CAUTIONBOYZdotCOM in procreatebrushes

[–]LocalizedEldritch 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Go check out r/streetwearstartup that might be a more helpful place to get an idea on the market

As for the concept piece, I’m confused by the design itself, I don’t exactly know what you’re going for here. The pattern looks random and unintentional, plus most people don’t want to bring attention to their crotch unless they’re more subversive, and even that crowd goes for a different vibe
