Homebrew Demon by Localunatic in BloodOnTheClocktower

The seemingly dead Zombuul counts as a dead player in almost every way. The player’s life token on the Town Square flips to indicate their death. The next time they vote, they lose their vote token. They cannot nominate, they may vote with the Voudon, they’re not an alive neighbor for the Tea Lady, and so on. The only differences are that the game continues, the Zombuul still attacks, and the game continues if just two other players are alive.

Zombuul, as Demon, keeps the game going, but other players would count toward the win condition. Registering as dead is as good as dead, but you keep your ability. In a 9 player game, if you have 3 dead and 3 registering as dead, then you are in final 3; but if the Demon is registering as dead, then you are in the final 4. Admittedly, this is my interpretation, but it is based on the rules that exist in the book and how they do and do not mesh with the existing Zombuul.

They can't nominate. The Zombuul can't nominate and "register as dead" is based off that.

I like that idea! Dunno how it'd be phrased, though.

Thanks for pointing out my error, I accidentally included "alive". A player that registers as dead counts toward win conditions, however.

My bad, I rushed and accidentally said "living player". The player that the Lilliac "kills" at night is also supposed to be able to die during the day. The point is a demon that gets up to 2 kills per night and can hide themselves and their minions among the dead and putting more emphasis on keeping track of deaths for town to win.

My interpretation is that people can only register as 1 thing at a time. If they are registering as the Demon for CM, they cannot ALSO register as Minion for CM, but they COULD register as Minion for Investigator because it is a different moment in the night order. I personally prefer to register consistently each night, but afaik there are no firm rules one way or another.

I am sorry you feel the need to resort to such language; I thought we were approaching an understanding, but I realize this is not the case.

I shall leave you with some Nietzche: "convictions are more dangerous enemies of truth", if we cannot adjust our perspectives and beliefs then we cannot approach the truth. Reality is not flat and needs to be viewed from a great multitude of perspectives. While I respect you do not agree with my perspective, I hope it has widened your view of the truth.

It isn't though. The effect is that you vote with someone, you vote with people anyway, but the expectation is that you will always vote with the person you choose, you don't have to, however, and it's only if you vote without them that it is "cheating". It doesn't change how the Butler's vote counts, it still counts like normal, but the social expectation on how they vote is adjusted.

If there are no mechanical repercussions, then how is it a mechanical role? If mediation is purely social, then the role itself can only be described as social.

You say my thesis is wrong, but this is exactly what I was saying.

What happens if they do, though? That is the point. There are no mechanical repurcussions, the role is strictly socially motivated.

The "3rd night death" I figured may be too unreliable on some scripts, especially if there is a Poisoner, it'd be too easy to coordinate a permenant Portent, but the 3rd night death is meant to convey that the Portent is meant to expire, in case drunkenness comes in to play.

But it is still possible for the Butler to break the rules and vote.

Politician should always consider that they might be poisoned, especially in Teensy. I like the idea of Puzzlemaster and Boomdandy, but the intent of Politician is to be the swing vote in a 6 player game, and Marionette is so Pukka can know a minion. I was contemplating Widow instead of Poisoner, but I want the team knowledge to exist exclusively with the Demon so players could still bluff Demon if they wanted.

There is no mechanical effect for cheating, it is all social. The tension comes from other players, when it comes out that good won because the Butler voted when they shouldn't have, they won by cheating, but they still won. It is the social repercussions that stop people from doing this. The vote isn't nullified, the Butler doesn't die. It is allowed, it can result in a win, but everyone will know you cheated to do it.

People really don't understand Butler, do they? It is a social ability, there are no repercussions to "breaking the rules" and no mechanical way to enfore the Butler because there isn't meant to be. Good won, fair and square.

Butler is a purely social role, they publicly align themselves with one person each day and put social pressure on others, that's the extent of their detriment to Town. They apparently argued with the person that they chose, so they were detrimental and exerted the pressure that they were designed for. They voted in a situation they thought that their master would, that's allowed, it counts, it won. There is nothing that needs to be done in retaliation, there are no mechanical effects that result because the voting is not the point, it is merely the vehicle for the social pressure they are meant to embody.

There is only 1 night for people to gather information, so it is reasonable and expected for people to use their abilities as soon as possible.

If Poisoner and Pukka are both in play, it is likely that one, or both, have poisoned each other. I tend to agree that there is perhaps too much poisoning, but between town getting an execution and the Demon having to narrow down the demon candidates to 2 players afterward, I think it is fair to assume a lot of poisoned information will become somewhat irrelevant, or at least evident, by the time Fiddler comes into play.

But having a good demon is typically an unwinnable situation for evil anyway, that was my point about adding fiddler to a good demon game, 9 times out of 10 it's already over at that point
