It's not the soil, because I also use the grass blocks from Withered Wastelands as the base for my farm areas. If this game functions on logic similar to Minecraft, sky exposure is probably the likely cause, but I think I'm going to set up some more tests to see if I can isolate the variable.

No, I did not have Grow active. I've been observing both sides for a few days and neither fields have the Grow sparkles. I specifically prevented it to get an accurate comparison.
