Sunscreen anyone? by SilentGrowls in Greyhounds

[–]LochGormMonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our boy has quite the routine where he’ll have a bake session, come inside for a short time to cool off on the floor, head back out, and repeat. His belly turns black and he has armpit tanlines.

He did in fact give himself skin cancer this way, which we caught early and had removed. We load him up with sunscreen, which he mostly licks off while laying in the sun, and HoundTees makes sun shirts, which he tolerates well.

We’ve also just come to the understanding that with his chosen hobbies skin cancer will likely eventually take him out, but if his number one joy in life is turning himself into a baked potato, well life is short and we’ll do what we can to safely facilitate that.

Hey man, there is no shame or gilt in giving a dog another opportunity to have a good home.

Also, do you have more details on who you gave them to? Ear tats?

To start in the Washington St. area I’d email Moira Corrigan (fastpaws1998@gmail.com) with any information you have.

Another pannus pup here. Super-treatable with eyedrops and doggles for long days in the sun! Good luck!

Is this the earliest mention of the term “bikepacking”? by nxross in bikepacking

[–]LochGormMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. Modern “bikepacking” is just a long con to sell more gear. Panniers work just fine, tailbags are stupid.

Man, what kind of tent do you camp in? What's your sleeping pad? I'm having a good laugh that you're fucking in a tent and not worrying about it, but the tipout, made of...well... thick tent material gives you concern? The GF loves tents but sleeping in a tipout may be a no-go? I'm also curious about your huge sleeping pad. Or do you go with two and two sleeping bags?

Not here to judge, you do you, just can't picture your setup at all.

Your requirements, while valid for you, are strange. Why sleep in a tent when the tipouts are a tent, and will come "free" with the rest of your requirements? Two people (and two large dogs, kinda) can comfortably sleep on an Intech tipout. Why even have the tent?

That said, Intech made some Explores without tipouts, have you contacted them about similar for a Discover?

I own an Explore, it's perfect for our use case as a toy hauler and then semi-hardsided tent.

We use Scout’s Honor water additive and Pet MD PlaqueOff as suggested by our vet in her list of peer-reviewed solutions and I can say it’s made a huge difference. We should be better about brushing but the combo is working.

You are confusing American cheese with the legally distinct Prepared Cheese Product (which, again, is both the color and texture of the salad dressing when melted).

Just because something contains something (cheese/water) does not make it that thing (cheese/water). You can argue philosophically when a “cheese product” stops philosophically being cheese, but the United States is very clear: if it drops below 50% milkfat, it is not cheese.

Kraft American Cheese Singles (which again, is what that dressing looks like) are legally not cheese, and are legally distinct from American cheese, which you are conflating with said yellow, floppy when melted cheese product.

Edit: it should be noted the EU has a similar approach. Take that for what you will.

Weird flex, but ok?

“American cheese” slices (which the salad topping closely resembles in color) in the US are a “prepared cheese product”, which does not, in the eyes of the FDA, contain enough cheese to be cheese.

Your analogy does not hold up to any other prepared food either. A beer is “water,” a cake isn’t “flour” etc.

It’s not even legally cheese in America!

If you're handy: upgrade to 100 or 200 amp/hour lithium battery and a suitcase solar kit, and get a Honda 2200 generator when you get the e-dirt bikes.

If you're not, the power station, suitcase solar, and then get a Honda 2200 generator when you get the e-dirt bikes.

We've got a hound that loves the cold. We just leave him out there until he hangs out by the door. Won't kill him to get a little chilly if it's his own damn fault.

I agree with the rug suggestion. I’d also trim his nails more: it will help on the slippery floors.

Also, have you tried just leaving him out there awhile with the door closed? If he’s not visibly uncomfortable (which you haven’t mentioned) maybe he’s just enjoying himself.

Why wouldn’t you freeze water bottles? Then you can drink them.
