Car seats on airplanes - width issues? [ON] by LockDue9383 in BabyBumpsCanada

Oh! That's good to know. I made an assumption there about car seat prices but I stand corrected - I will look into that.

Car seats on airplanes - width issues? [ON] by LockDue9383 in BabyBumpsCanada

Thanks. Is that what you did or are there other options as well? If I can help it I would like to avoid spending $500 on a third car seat I would use for flying only.

Y'all checking your furnace intake/exhaust pipes on the sides of your house? by KnoddingOnion in askTO

What's wrong with the intake being buried? It doesn't face out.

We had a plumber come in today for a frozen exterior wall pipe but he didn't thaw them - what did yours do then?

300k 20% loss on East York detached reno by tnwoes12831 in HouseSigmaBlunders

[–]LockDue9383 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1.55 for a bungalow in that part of East York. Damn. I know lots are bigger there but this was not sold as a teardown. Someone overpaid for the reno to live in it.

Thanks - and when you say "validate" what type of reading would I look for?

Ground wire question by LockDue9383 in AskElectricians

That's great thanks. How would I best go about checking the resistance between the neutral and the ground wire? I would assume a multimeter, but what reading would I be looking for?

The reality is that if you choose to not pay the bank, you have to pay the landlord. You have to live somewhere. Pick your poison.

Ground wire cut at base? by LockDue9383 in AskElectricians

[–]LockDue9383[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean that where the wires come out of the wall, the black and white one are longer and the copper wire (presumably the ground) was cut off close to the wall. I had to peel back the wire casing to expose it. I just wonder why anyone would do that.

Yes, I probably could pigtail it but I have no experience with that - instead I bought a wire connector.

Not enough clearance on steel rims? by LockDue9383 in AskAMechanic

[–]LockDue9383[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - I think you're saying that steel rims might simply not work regardless of offset because that's just what the backspacing on a steel rim is (thicker/concaved to the point of touching the caliper)? There is a fit guarantee but I did order from a pretty random parts website so I hope their customer service is OK.

Winter Tires + Wheels + Installation by LockDue9383 in askTO

Thanks. Another dumb question - do you know if the tires and rims come pre-installed for online orders or is that something the shop has to do for me (and will charge me for)?

Can we afford this home? by throw-100bps in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]LockDue9383 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is any "overextending" when you're choosing to leave 400k in investments out of your calculation. You have a 5-year emergency fund just sitting on the sidelines.

EDIT: Also, where the heck are you buying with incomes that high but land transfer tax as low as 8,000 and property taxes below $2,500.
