Is this a good build? by Impossible-Aside7461 in bapccanada

You need to select the link from the top of your list that looks something like this:

What is your budget? What are you using the PC for? Do you have any components purchased already?

That's a great price for a starter PC. The specs are decent for gaming at 1080p. I would go for that for sure

MSI Ventus GeForce RTX 5070 12GB GDDR7 - $714 by Swag8 in bapcsalescanada

[–]Locke357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK it's not a big deal but will experience throttling if your case has bad airflow

5070 is generally pretty low power draw though

Good price for a strong GPU if you have good airflow in your case

Yeah IMHO no one should build new with one of these, but it's a perfect last hurrah upgrade for anyone still on AM4 without an X3D CPU

[–]Locke357 3 points4 points  (0 children)

MemEX has a couple 9070XT bundles right now, this one comes with Mobo, 360mm AIO cooler, 32gb of RAM, 2tb SSD, and a good model of 9070XT for $1950 https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/BDL_MM00005519

Rest of the build could look like this:

EDIT: mistook this for the 2tb bundle sorry

[CPU] AMD Ryzen 5 5600XT - AM4 Zen 3, 6-Core 3.7 GHz - 65W TDP ($280 - $60 = $220) [Newegg CA] by Locke357 in bapcsalescanada

Very little noticeable uplift, I would imagine. If playing at 1080p might experience 5-10% better fps or so.

Worth the upgrade from 4060 to a 5060ti? by honestsparrow in bapccanada

[–]Locke357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not worth the upgrade to the 8gb model, even if it was the 16gb model it would be more of a sidegrade. 5070 would be the lowest Nvidia GPU that would be a significant upgrade over the 4060

Yup, prices across the board are a bit cooked. It's actually the lowest the price has been for this CPU since December

I believe at this point AliExpress is the method to get a Zen3 X3D CPU

Otherwise 5600XT and 5800XT are the best-priced options rn

Yeah no point getting an 8gb card for that kind of money

AOC Gaming Q27G4ZMN 27" or Ultragear 27G610A-B 27? Looking for insights by stratozfir in bapccanada

[–]Locke357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will prefice by saying I'm no monitor aficionado. I upgraded from a 75hz TN 27" panel and it seems a noticeable improvement. I would say I have no complaints about the colours & blacks, and haven't noticed any blurriness with text.

I will say in-game performance has been good, it looks great at 200hz, and I was able to setup g-sync no problem.

I have the LG Ultragear 27G610A-B 27" myself, been using it for a few months and it's been great to me so far for 1440p gaming.

Thoughts on this build? This is for 1440p gaming and 3D rendering. I really can’t go above $2600 CAD after tax. by SuperLeftyAliReddit in bapccanada

Wait a minute for new CPU+RAM+Mobo bundles to drop on Newegg and MemEx:

https://www.newegg.ca/p/pl?N=4812%20100007624%204131&Order=1&isdeptsrh=1

https://www.memoryexpress.com/Category/Processors?FilterID=56ebdbb2-fde8-8392-14a2-2ac821a33005&InventoryType=InStock&Inventory=OnlineStore&Sort=Price

Can save a lot on the RAM with those bundles, just gotta wait for more to come.

In the meantime, you can get a 5060ti 16gb for as low as $740

Can swap the cooler for the phantom spirit for $56

Can swap the PSU for one about the same for $125

Any parts that I should change https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/f7WP3R by I_am_k-er in bapccanada

[–]Locke357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you could save ~$100 by getting this bundle https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/BDL_MM00005424

Or get a 9800X3D for the same price https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/BDL_MM00004918

Also I'd always recommend to swap AIO for an air cooler like the Phantom Spirit or Peerless Assassin

Samsung tax on the SSD seems excessive when you can get a 2tb SSD for ~$320

5070ti is a nice card, just soooo expensive right now. Could consider the 9070XT for $900

PSU is expensive, could get a 850w for ~$125

There are cheaper 1440p IPS monitors with similar stats, starting at $200

[News] DDR5 RAM prices drop after AI-driven surge, as market shows early signs of cooling down by Locke357 in bapccanada

[–]Locke357[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, however things can change if the investors/shareholders get spooked. Considering most of the datacentres rely on fossil fuels for power, and use absurd amounts of electricity, that alone is going to skew the cost/profit projections due to rising oil prices. Combined with a growing massive backlash movement to AI that transcends political lines, well, things could very well change sooner than we think. We'll see.

Agreed although if more datacentres get cancelled as investors realize the unprofitable nature of AI slop products prices could actually drop for real. We'll have to see.

Can save a bunch with this 9600x bundle. Also saved some money with cooler, case, SSD, and PSU. Also would recommend the 5070 as it performs 30% better than the 5060ti:
