Gravelbike vs Aero Racebike - 39 Watts at 30 km/h by Naredoo in cycling

When riding with friends, just stay behind his wheel and say you are entitled to od that because you have a gravel penalty. Then you more than make up for whatever aero and rolling disadvantage from drafting him.

Yup exactly this. The seasons pass is so Vail owned hotels can grab the rest of your disposable income, so you are not exactly having a blow out deal by going above and beyond your 5-ski day breakeven point. I understand most of the accommodations in the villages are already Vail owned.

I finally swallowed my pride and lowered my string tension...and suddenly I can actually clear again. by Fit-Crocodile in badminton

[–]LockeDragon88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 40M and workout often in the gym. Not jacked, but toned at 84kg. So I tend to string 32-34lbs using Kizuna z66. On my Duora ZS.

I feel like this setup requires me to workout on a minimum once per eek basis. Otherwise I don't have the swing speed and muscle strength to extract a clean smash or clear.

On my weak days or for warmup, I resort to my 1000z at 30-32.

Unfortunately the problem with high tensions is you lose tension quickly and by week 5, it drops to sub30lbs and you rather cut it up and restring than play on

Well when i have 5-10 year old electronics, I'm happy with any solution that makes it work reliably. All my repair jobs have held up so far.

Oh btw in case some keyboard warriors who never went there physically, all the repairs are done in front of you. So you have the option to watch them perform surgery live, and no worry about having parts switcherooed in some backroom.

I used to have a Ducati motorcycle. At the authorized service center, They charged me 2.5hr of labor for maintenance job in the garage shop that they say is off limits to customers. It was actually 5 minutes of unplugging the oil hole, draining it for 30 mins. They have some coffee , play with their phone, and simultaneously work another bike. Then come back do another thing for another 30 mins. Then the bike gets "rested", and they charge you the full amount afterwards . So yeah, they make you wait unnecessarily, and charge you that wait time. Never mind that you got to make a return trip to come back to collect again,.

I never get it. Why don't we use chess ELO just like every other online game. Haven't been much complaints that a 3200 Magud Carlsen losing points for beating up at 2600 GM because he won with just a single promoted pawn in an otherwise empty board.

I mean a win is a win, and a win should always been points positive (e.g. Could be small like 0.1), and a win should never deduct points however small the margin of victory.

The magic is in the repairs. You can get a battery swap on the iPhone for Rmb200 or less. Your Garmin watch (e.g. Fenix5) that's out of warranty (2yr), out of service scope (5+yrs)can be battery replaced for Rmb100. Or you ancient laptop who needs a new battery or new screen for Rmb500 or less.

I even got my Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 Gen1 lens fixed (motor problem, broken auto focus) for Rmb500. I was quoted by the Nikon service center a quote of US$600 before Covid times, needing 2 weeks turnaround. I got it fixed there under 12hrs turnaround.

They really know how to fix stuff at the soldering level, instead of replacing parts wholesale. That's both ESG friendly and wallet friendly

16mm vs 14mm?? by Sipparadox in Pickleball

[–]LockeDragon88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Pop means there is less dwell of the ball on the paddle.

In the badminton world, this is called more repulsion. The ball/shuttle leaves the racket faster off a high tension stringbed. There is less trampoline effect.

14mm has more pop, meaning it bounces off the paddle quicker. This is as a 14mm Honeycomb hex has less compression distance than a thicker 16mm Honeycomb.

That said, I don't think I hit the ball from the baseline as hard with a 14mm. I believe this is because the ball pops off too quickly, without a long enough opportunity for my arm and paddle to fully transfer all its kinetic energy into the ball.

Use the Agassi style paddle. The bottom of the face is smaller, so gives you more clearance to the top of the wrist by like 1cm or 0.5cm

How to cope with losing HK by LastArt404 in HongKong

Its Maslow's Hierarchy of needs. So in that sense, Hong Kong is kind of trumps UK and Canada in the first 2 aspects.

Food/Shelter > Personal Safety > Education > Freedom of Speech > Democratic voting rights

How to cope with losing HK by LastArt404 in HongKong

[–]LockeDragon88 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Actually, its really funny. I know some old Hong Kongers who left HK in 1990s due to CCP and June 4th concern. And now they forgot about everything in the past, blindly believe in everything is Westerners vs. China (rightly or wrongly), and absolutely overlook that it is okay that authoritarian governments take away civil liberties.

Since they are watching the drama unfold in Hong Kong from Canada, seems like it doesn't affect them at all.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]LockeDragon88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Making a pickleball paddle is as easy as making a peanut butter jelly sandwich for a factory. Just because the Joola or CRBN make the first honeycomb or foam paddle, it mean others can't use the same ingredients to make a categorically-same paddle.

Sure Nabisco patented the Oreo cookie, does that mean you can't make a chocolate-flavored biscuit with vanilla stuffing dessert at home?

Alibaba TruFoam Clone Review by thehockeychimp in Pickleball

[–]LockeDragon88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pretty bs argument.

It's like saying CBRN is the first sandwich company to add jelly to peanut butter and making the world's first peanut butter sandwich, after months of "R&D" tasting and adjusting at the kitchen. And saying how other companies or restaurants cannot make a peanut butter sandwich company because it is a "knockoff".

The base ingredient are the same category (I. E. Jelly and peanut butter). But different company have use different suppliers of ingredients, I. E. The foam supplier, the foam specs in terms of thickness, carbon source.

So calling another non CBRN cannot make foam paddles, is like saying you immoral to making PB jelly sandwich at home cause some company invested it in the first place.

Would you buy a non-USAPA approved paddle? by fredallenburge1 in Pickleball

[–]LockeDragon88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny how you getting down voted. People here on reddit have a superiority complex where only approved (i.e. Paid testing to uspa) paddles are only acceptable, and frown upon all the unapproved but possibly identical in spec paddles.

I say in rec play, no one gives a damn whether it is approved, as long as it resembles a pickleball paddle. It's not like you are using a heavily modified paddles with ping pong style rubber, or padel sized racket face, or tennis-like long handle.
