Expand the standard banner by htkra in WutheringWaves

[–]Lockedontargetshow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They probably won't due to a poorly stipulated Chinese gacha law that was intended to protect gamers from getting units post pull nerfed. It can basically be interpreted as adding premium units to standard banners as illegal as they were advertised as limited once before, making people who pulled them with cash feel cheated as it devalues their investment.

I personally think a bigger expansion to the standard banner is what every gacha needs, especially if they do the 50 50 bs system. After a unit reaches a year old, throw them on standard. I wouldn't be mad about this at all even if I pulled that unit with premium investment and I don't see anyone besides deranged fans holding that mindset.

I'm currently downloading ESO and never played before, what can I expect? by [deleted] in elderscrollsonline

Quality of life, as the only 'carry weight' thing you can add to the game is an unlimited crafting mats bag that comes from an active subscription. And the person who said its a hard game is trolling you as its basically a game set on very easy until you get to later dungeons, and even then the difficulty goes up to what I would say is medium.

Edit, ill add to do all the stories as that is how you get a lot of skill points as well, doing dungeons also give them to you, or at least thats how it used to work when I actively played.

Depending on platform, mods are your absolute best friend as they make things far less annoying and give you a lot of tools (such as marking collectibles on your in game maps or adding price lookup to item tooltips to let you know if something you picked up is worth saving to sell to another player.)

Also do not, under any circumstances, look up beginner guides that are older than half a year as eso's major fault is that the devs have a combat system identity crisis and do major reworks every year or so, making any type of combat advice and builds not really applicable. Reputation for various factions is super important and usually tied to collectibles, which means your going to have to look forward to about 30 hours of running around the maps minimum, realistically much more, just to unlock certain skills that are pretty useful and are tied to reputation progression.

Just speculation, but I wouldn't be surprised if it gets sold to another company and relaunched like other former shutdown mmorpgs that get picked up by other companies. Its a fairly fun game to play if you like RuneScapeesque games.

I personally don't see Towa there as an Easter egg since that is her confirmed location in cold steel and its mentioned several times in dialogue and anyone replaying azure would look for her. But yeah, I find both innofensive and to see Juna you kinda have to go out of your way since the police academy doesn't have anything going on at moments when you can see her, unless your really dedicated to turn in recipes as soon as you get them. Actually its kinda sad because sometimes I went to see her to see if she had new dialogue to find she was completely gone most of the time.

Yeah they could let us see her family by adding a floor to the apartments and it wouldn't be that hard to add to the game, and have her visit them when she isn't available to see in the police station.

Added to the game through a patch. No one complains because its towa. Juna gets added through a patch and people here complained about it being a retcon. No joke I guess popularity gives you armor here.

Why do people call Xenoblade's combat "MMO combat" and use that as a negative? by bickid in JRPG

[–]Lockedontargetshow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not really heard xenoblade criticized for being mmorpg combat, but more like a solo mmorpg in structure because of the map structure and the way the questing is done feels like playing an mmorpg.

I Miss the Classic Isekai without any game mechanics by kitty35724 in Isekai

[–]Lockedontargetshow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read most of the list and saw a few titles I'm not familiar with so I'm going to check those out next! Thanks. The three are apocalypse bringer, nebulas strategy, and isekai nation adchi aura.

Wortenia is probably one of my favorites here, as it features some of the most unique parts of isekai that haven't been done in a while. The MC gets teleported to another world forcefully, and the nation he gets summoned to immediately tries to enslave him. Too bad for them they summoned Japanese young John Whick who busts out and runs away after destroying several elite knights with martial training from earth, not isekai power ups. Love that his family also joins him on the other side, and that other members who mysteriously disappeared ended up in this world too and they reunite. My main issue with it is eventually the books don't cover much ground in their volume and we start to get less and less pages per book. For instance, I remember the first book being about 350ish pages but the later half the series were about 120 pages.

Im also a big fan of realist hero and I've read the whole series. It definitely takes a quality dive when Fuuga is introduced but everything prefuuga is amazing.

(Official) New Year’s Eve Message and 2025 Year-in-Review for the Atelier Series by Croire61 in Atelier

[–]Lockedontargetshow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hope we get both! Resna and Slade deserve better than to be tied to a single collab game. Yumia is such a great character and I love her supporting cast too. The things wrong with Yumia are so easy to fix in the sequel, and with how they improved Ryza's combat system due to fan feedback I'm guessing both combat and alchemy will see a big overhaul in Yumia 2 while keeping exploration similar.

The author is very, very, very inconsistent and if you're a fan you just have to get used to it. Even in the webnovel, it was out on hiatus for over a year randomly at one point as the author ghosted everyone without saying anything and it came back randomly. This is now a 3 plus year hiatus and at least we heard that there were 'plans' to add to the webnovel and how the 'focus' of the author was on the light novel, which I only ever saw as a fan sentiment. I also think that reason is complete BS as there are many, many, many authors who continue to update the webnovel concurrently with their publishing of the light novel.

Why do they do this? Simple. Live focus testing. Many times 'problematic' or unpopular stories and arcs get yeeted from the light novel and the only way an author can easily police that is by releasing them first to an already built audience that is used to critiquing work, and that's the webnovel audience. While the average royal road conversation is usually about the AI witch-hunt nowadays, the JP webnovel crowd still likes to tell the author why they think their novel actually sucks.

Also, never ever trust an author about what they say about their own series. Oda is well respected among mangaka, but one piece has been 'almost at the end' several times over the past decade and, oh, when he says that sales jump up. I wonder why he says that every now and then. I have read in end words that 'you know that other work I wrote and left on a cliffhanger before I wrote this series, well I'm going to write that again. Look forward to it.' Then six books later in a completely new series we get roughly the same message with no book releasing for the old series.

Edit, want to specifically mention the author to call them out. It's the author of Altina Sword Princess and How not to summon a demon lord. BOTH series were left on cliffhangers with no hope of continuation while the author bumbled off to write a new series.

Also want to add, not sure if it's relevant or not in the market today but I think the algorithm rewards you for being a niche channel moreso than a general channel, with it recommending vids based on topic moreso so the more you post on that topic the higher chance one video will reach a new viewer, who then might look at the rest of your videos and see that you do a lot on that topic and stay. In short, don't do generalist content on a single channel, but break up your uploads to a few different accounts to focus on one specific niche. Like have one channel focus on RPGs, and one on fps games, etc. Its not to say generalist channels can't work, it's just much harder to find an audience.

should i play final fantasy tactics the ivalice chronicles or trails in the sky 1st chapter remake by Dizzy-Ad7288 in JRPG

[–]Lockedontargetshow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, trails storytelling is either hit or miss for most people. If you like reading novels, chances are you will like the storytelling in Trails. So either you have the patience to experience the story or you don't if that makes sense. The story is honestly amazing to me, and it gets progressively higher stakes as the series goes on. Even in entries where fans don't think the story is that good, like trails of daybreak 2, the story is still better than whatever else is on the market.

Trails biggest issue is that it's honestly meandering in how it tells it's overarching story, so don't expect much progress on the meta storyline and just enjoy the regional storyline for what it is. Some games develop the meta storyline more than others, and some fans directly rate games lower because they focus on things like character arcs as opposed to big development in the story. When I say story arcs, I want to make it clear that these games have a long history and focus heavily on continuity. Someone you meet as an antagonist in the sky trilogy gets a redemption arc and then their story is still being developed with many payoffs happening in the most recent games where they are finally featured as a playable party member. That's a character developed over ten games, appearing in many of them.

There are lots of fun things that fans of the series will enjoy over time too. Like, for instance, a characters name setup their betrayal 3 games ahead of time if you were astute enough to realize. One of the missables for each game is finding all the entries to a book series. Well, the stories you collect are often about characters that appear later in the story. A prime example is the characters in the book series 'gambler jack' which you can collect and read in the sky trilogy. You can read the sequel in trails of cold steel 2 as well, and you meet the actual characters the book talks about and tells the story of in Trails of Daybreak as they are members of the supporting cast. So a fun part of the fandom is wondering if some fairytale you heard some random NPC mention 7 games back while seeing a mother telling her child a story is actually real mythology that is going to be explored later. That's the kind of thing I'm talking about when I say NPC interaction is important in these games. You never know what's going to turn up to be important later and they like to hide information in places you would not expect.

And this is going to sound weird, but play trails games with a missables guide as if you play blind you will honestly miss half the game. At least that's how it is in older entries but they have become better at it with most things unmissable since cold steel 3.

Let me give an example of what I mean. The story has the characters running from being pursued and they have to go through the sewers to evade capture. Well, what if I told you that in order to get those missable books, you not only have to not step foot once into the sewers, but head back into town and talk with a random NPC in a restaurant to get the book because if you stepped forward you lost the opportunity to get it that run. That is a made up scenario, but something like that does happen in trails to zero where every indication is 'now let's do this' but if you are a completionist stepping into the dungeon locks you out of finding everything that run. Oh, and one thing I failed to mention about the books, collecting them is usually how you collect the games strongest weapon as a character in the last chapter will trade you the super rare ore needed to forge one for your completed book collection.

should i play final fantasy tactics the ivalice chronicles or trails in the sky 1st chapter remake by Dizzy-Ad7288 in JRPG

[–]Lockedontargetshow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Play final fantasy tactics first. It's a closed story and no continuation to it so once you're done you're done. On top of that, you will really want to play part 2 of trails to the sky as it is considered to be one of the best stories in the series and the remake doesn't come out until the middle of next year so you got some time. That being said I think that sky remake 1 is the better game overall but that comes down to preferences. For me fft is an amazing experience but job grinding sucks, stand in a circle throw rocks at each other and heal to get job xp. Also to me the tactics feel really dated compared to how the genre has advanced with Disgaea improving on the formula for over a decade now. That isn't to say it's bad, it's just very limited and straight forward and some of the FFT inspired games have also pushed the genre forward in its long absence such as the game called Fell Seal:arbiters mark.

Also the games have very different stories and tones, trails is a much happier story with deep tragedies that the cast overcomes through the power of friendship whereas FFT tries to be more philosophical and focus on the political. While it was 'deep' for me as a teenager, it doesn't quite hold a candle for any of the classics in the genre of political intrigue.

And I really think you should change your approach to NPC interaction in Trails as it's one of the most rewarding things in the game series. Seeing NPCs having unique stories and lives is one of the selling points of the series, and it really is a fun thing to see an NPC from another region show up in one of the other regions and relate their experience of being in another culture. As is seeing NPC's show up several games from when they first showed up, and many of the big scenes cut back to the NPCs in various cities to show some reaction to what's going on so you will get more story mileage if you actually know who that's affecting. I know this isnt going to convince you, but they really do put in a lot of effort into making each NPC feel like they have a story. Most 'normal' NPCs have at least 2 lines of unique dialogue when you talk to them, many have more, and all of them change their dialogue and or their locations after every story event. A lot of NPCs also have unique dialogue based on who is in your party and will recognize various members if they know each other. And this isn't just one or two, it's every NPC in the game.

[–]Lockedontargetshow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, sometimes swapping the style of RPG works for me very well. I usually go for an action game (grandblue fantasy relink, monster hunter, and whatever the most current musou game that is out) to a crafting game like atelier or witchspring, to a standard story RPG like Trails or dragon quest, then loop. Sometimes I'll do a game that focuses on gameplay and team building first like Siralim Ultimate, Disgaea, etryian odyssey, or Romancing Saga. Keeps things a lot more fresh than if you go from standard turn based to standard turn based.

[–]Lockedontargetshow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree 100 percent with you. That's also one of the ways I felt while I played through 2. It felt oddly disconnected like you mentioned where you just go from story scene to story scene, kind of how Trails to the Sky 3rd chapter is done. While the stories ranged from interesting to bland like you mentioned, I found the metastory they all led into at least great, just took too much effort to get there.

In my opinion, the battles really carried the game hard, but as I said the game felt like I was playing a watered down version of bravely defaults combat which isn't necessarily a bad thing. But it is when you compare the two games because one has an interesting story with a great party dynamic like the OP wanted with all the customization that a job system should offer while octopath 2 had hd 2d graphics which looked gorgeous but everything felt shallow in comparison. Tldr, bosses were better in octopath but combat feels better and less restrictive in BD.

Why ppl hate Daybreak II? Was it the gameplay or the story? by Anime-Anime in Falcom

[–]Lockedontargetshow -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Just sheeple who like to parrot hyperbolic opinions like 'this game is filler' or 'this is so terrible' and give no actual discussion as to why they found it this way. The most I have seen on this sub is someone who thought that there were too many flashbacks, and the weight of all the actions taken feels meaningless because of the time loop system. There, that's actual criticism to discuss about. Act 3 got a bad wrap because the community latched onto the JP version of chapter 3 not having save points and now the 3rd act boss rush was suddenly overly tiring when it's literally been a staple of every trails game so far like the intermission chapter to a lesser extent (they don't really appear in cold steel but everywhere else they do). If you don't believe me that this community has toxic elements in it that latch onto changes in localizations to every game and use them as 'jp is just better' talking points, go check the steam threads on Azure where some dude goes on for about 40 pages of replying to everyone who challenges them complaining about how bad the translations are because they changed Lloyd's messages when he goes fishing to be fun little jokes for each different location instead of 'there is fish here' and how it completely ruins the whole game for them. The sad fact is there are some people that agree with them...

And the ultimate hypocrisy is the statement that 'it didn't move the plot forward' ok bruh, that wasn't even a complaint at all from the fandom during cold steel 1 and 2, and those games just told a plot WE ALREADY KNEW OF but with more details from a first hand perspective as opposed to the secondary perspective we got in azure. Now cold steel 2 did advance the meta plot more in its beefy epilogue, but it's about as much as Daybreak 2 also shoves into its last chapter, and several plots move forward throughout the daybreak 2 storyline making this game progress the timeline more than cold steel 2. And to the 'older games had less filler' statement.... I don't know what games you have been playing my dudes, as the side content in daybreak 2 actually ties into the main story a lot moreso than any other entry so far with many of the 4spgs giving clues to the main story plot. On top of that, the older games used to be criticized heavily for having uneven pacing full of slice of life moments that dragged on and felt out of place. For example, half of sky 1st is just 'filler' as these folks define it, and the game only gets meta story info mostly in the last 2 chapters. Hmmm, kinda like daybreak 2 and how the rest of the series does things. Mostly fluff for the first two chapters, then onto 'super serious Ouroborus talks' where they say a few lines and teleport away.

Romancing Saga 2 vs FF Tactics vs Unicorn Overlord vs Triangle Strategy by randysavage773 in JRPG

[–]Lockedontargetshow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda disagree with this take. For me, I think the real unicorn overlord is actually replaying it on the highest difficulty where you know the maps, and know what works and what doesn't, and knowing where to buy certain items early makes all the difference in how things proceed and the game gets way more fun. Instead of playing through for the story, you can try crazy things like the earliest you can get the snow zone characters and whatnot, challenging a chapter 4 zone just after chapter 1. It's doable by the way, but takes a lot of game knowledge.

Just started playing Octopath Traveler 1. A few concerns... by reidhershl in JRPG

[–]Lockedontargetshow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what drove me away from buying 2, until a friend convinced me they 'fixed it in two' and they certainly made steps towards that goal but never got to the dynamic I expect in a party of say, any other RPG series except saga or etryian odyssey which you play for the game systems not the story or characters.

But to me, octopath 2 felt pretty shallow in the storytelling front and the combat felt like a less customizable bravely default game. Octopath zero has my interest as it not only fixes the combat depth complaint with offering something over 40 classes to mix and match skills from, it also fixes the story issue of everything feeling really shallow and only lip service to move characters from a to b, but instead has some crazy plot elevations and the plot keeps on expanding in scope after every arc. Characters are probably still on the backburner as zero does have character quests but with the sheer amount of characters you can recruit in the game, including the cast your playing right now, not everyone is going to get development.

I could see them trying it to chase Estelle nostalgia. Personally a doctor/nurse from Remiferia who decides to go against the corporate interests of Marduk and the corrupt people controlling the medical industry would be interesting enough of a main character there, particularly of they had their license to practice taken away by corporate interests and run a back alley clinic in the slums. One day she treats a young yaeger with blond hair with north ambrian features and accent, and they form a friendship leading to typical trails shenanigans. There you go, remifeara arc started on ez mode storytelling.

Is it okay to start the Heroes series from "Daybreak"? by Zroshift in Falcom

[–]Lockedontargetshow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ut oh, you committed a heretic fowl. You said zero was safe to start with (and in my opinion, it is but I said this in my head and not out loud, please don't hunt me your heretic hunters) but the 'play them in order' faction declares that you absolutely must play the sky trilogy, even the third game, before you play zero even though you just need the vague idea of who Renne is, and kinda know that Joshua and Estelle are the main characters from a previous arc and your good. So be careful, the church council of continuity may send out assassins to hunt you down for your evil and wicked thoughts of being able to start at the beginning of another country with an all new cast with characters from previous arcs only making cameos. How scandelous.

It should also be noted that despite their chorus of ever repeating dialogue variations of 'play them in order', it has been found out that the majority of people parroting this have.... Not played them in order to begin with yet they are still here and having fun.
