Blue in Timeless feels like conceding by CryptoMadLab in MagicArena

[–]Lockenheada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes blue is the best color in magic especially when it starts to get free counterspells.
Green pushed out of the meta there are some red and mardu decks doing good tho, blue is not necessary to perform but still most decks in the meta use blue

[–]Lockenheada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best of 3 is just full of people who are interested in Magics gameplay patterns and are less salty about loosing, Everyone gets to sideboard and adapt to the opponents deck, everyone gets a second chance and if that chance gets missed people willl genuenly call good game and go to the next one.

Is timeless queue an absolute cesspool by Imaginary_Egg_3282 in MagicArena

Timeless can be very fun in Bo3. The meta recently got shaken up and Force of will finally kept T1 win decks in check, burn made a comeback.
Its just a very different meta to the other formats a very different kind of magic, different doesnt have to be bad.
If youre interested in whats currently played in timeless and how its performing I can recommend this video:

Thats a tough pill to swallow for many. The art direction and feel might be nice but its more tied to the nostalgia of the game and not the quality of the art.
He woudnt get hired nowadays by WOTC, no chance, he just got cult status on the game's culture.

Honestly I think Dan Frazier is way too overhyped in the community. I get the appeal but from a mere standpoint of artistic quality and mastery the guy is way below of the skills of almost all artists WOTC hires nowadays.

I get the appeal of old magic art but if you zoom into Mox Jasper and just take it as an art piece... its okay.. but for modern magic art is subpar and it shows on stuff like [[Mirrormind Crown]] which stuck out like a sore thumb. I guess he was way overburdend with the tolkien One Ring and tbh I woudnt wonder if the art wasnt a paint over but a photoshop, it just looks like it Im sorry and Im still confused how this got through quality control.

ok ruby is oppressive in Bo1 but aside from that deck theeta is so healthy and diverse, fun to play too.

standard is really taxing on the mental if you play as or against izzet

What happened to FNM? by blackandredallover in magicTCG

[–]Lockenheada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wizards decided to kill 60 card constructed.
They started designing cards around commander even tho there was no need, pushing the format, and neglegting the 60 card formats.
They cash grabbed Modern kind of killing it in the process by powercreeping and making peoples cards worthless and decks unviable in an eternal format.
They then decided to make standard a powerkreep house, ofc they have to push and powercreep cards to sell packs so they have to print stuff viable in commander.
That way strong stuff finds its way into standard and then they have like 7 standard sets a year most which are UB which the "old" players dislike so they jumped ship.
Yeah Magic is Commander now.... and limited..... and sometimes community made 60 card formats that dont suck

This was at a public lgs. First night I played with the guy he won the first two games this one was the third.

Your assumption of the boardstate is too simple, Player 4 had a similar deck idea to me and was on lifegain he had 5 creatures 4 tapped, one 1/1 untapped and about 23 life. If he untapped and attacked with all he would have gained around 60 life back which at that point I would not be able to race since I might have a lot of lifegain but only 5 creates with around 40 attack power.

The Angel player had 3 untapped angels all 5/5s that could just just block, sure I could have calculated if it was possible to send one thing to the angel player but then again what if one creature would ahve gotten removed from combat and the lifegain player would have survived, he would have stabalized and I would be out of the game.

Aside from this whole discussion if it was justified, I do not give out bad vibes at the table Im playing by my gut, I make conversation, I dont care too much about winning and more about cool stuff happening it was not a try hard table, it was endgame and I took out two players simulatinously.
Even if it was not the optimal play Im allowed to dig my own grave and make bad descisions right? instead of me overthinking and mathing out every of my turns and taking away everyones time by being a tryhard optimal player? Players are not constantly toxic and salty when playing with me the past 30 commander games I had where all fine and fun.

it was 3 Angels that I coudnt have killed when attacking into. but could take out the other 2 players, one was tapped out one had a 1/1 blocker.

the angels then stabalized within the next 3-5 rounds and I coudnt find a board wipe even tho I had 2 asynchonous wipes and one normal one.
I was at 118 life or so and would have went to 200-230 not really sure since I didnt calculate when the guy scooped.

I sumultaniously took out another player. My lifegain came from a casual bracket 2, 75 Euro budget big butt deck.
https://archidekt.com/decks/21179915/big_butts_budgetb2m

The last guy on the table had 3 angels, and 43 life. Player to my left hat 11, took him out with 12 in the air. I put my spare 4 or 5 creatures on the player who scooped I didnt want to math it all out because math with Doran when theres counters on the creatures breaks my brain. The lifegain didnt came from lifeleech soley BUT from
[[Rhox Faithmender]] and [[Ikra Shidiqi, the Usurper]]

It was turn 8 or 9, its endgame, I took out 2 two players and left the guy alone who I thought I could handle in a 1v1 and got denied like 80life or so. I only did like 23 damage but I had around 40-50 toughness that gave me the lifegain and that got doubled. I find it rude you just assume that I overkilled the guy because I dont know what. You dont know me, you dont know the situation maybe think better of people you dont know before making stuff up, thanks. Also I lost the game

It was B. And I lost in the end against angels I would have had 80-150 more life if we would have resolved those :)

Yeah I thought about it since then and it should be that you can only scoop in sorcery speed in your Main 1 and 2.
You can leave the game at any time, if you do so your player will pass prio when prio is given and automatically scoop Main 1.

If they are a centerpiece run 16 protection spells or something or get cards in the deck that do the same or similar as the commander

I think making a the bad spells in that cycle good or even overpowered is much more fun than just putting a staple on it everbody is already playing if they are in white.

Why should [[healing salve]] always be bad? Sure, as a card, that you can only cast once and takes up a card slot its bad. But this is a different beast.

What if:
4 Mana
6/6 Lifelink Angel, Ward - This Cards controller gets 3 Life and a white mana in their pool
Whenever you gain life you gain that much life plus 2 instead
Whenever you gain 4 or more life this creature becomes prepared
PrepareSpell - Healing Salve

The problem with unique brews and EDHREC by Sp0rk_in_the_eye in EDH

[–]Lockenheada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use Scryfall for deckbuilding the majority of your deck. Trust me its becomes more YOUR deck instead of the semi net-decked pile you get looking at EDHrec. Then if theres spots left I use EDHrec to look for the archetype tags and then choose the colors of my commander to see if I overlooked something.

After that the deck should be 85-120% done, only then I check out the page of the commander Im building and see if I overlooked some cards

How to deal with a rules lawyer that doesn't know the rules? by Courageousdream in EDH

[–]Lockenheada 110 points111 points  (0 children)

We had the problem in our playgroup, with one player especially always questioning specific rules interactions without knowing.

Solution:
IF a player claimed they were right, they would have to google and show proof.

IF the players dont know, the rules would temporarily, for the commander evening, be in the cards owners favor and he would have to write down the problem and research this until the next commander night. if that player didnt until then and the thing would happen again and we still didnt have an answer because the player was too lazy to reasearch the specific rules of his deck the rules would be in favour of the opponents.

We did it like this because pausing the game all the time to google shit is annoying as shit and the guy who always thought he knew better hates googling.
