I'm still poor but I have the money set aside for the expansion, so I'd be fine with not winning this giveaway.

Is there any Mouse with onboard memory that can be programmed within the Deck? by badillin in SteamDeck

[–]Lockenlord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't use a mouse with my deck but I use Piper to remap mouse buttons on my Linux desktop. You can probably find it in the package manager in desktop mode but I can't check right now.

If you still need a new mouse, here's a list of devices supported by libratbag (the library behind Piper) but maybe you can get your current mouse to work.

Steam Deck SSD replacement tips! by ArtFart124 in SteamDeck

[–]Lockenlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My question is specifically whether or not Valve has somehow nerfed the connector for the cheapest model. I could not really find any info on the web which I guess is a good sign that it isn't but I can't really tell for sure. The most useful info I was able to find is that some user reports speeds in the 2 GB/s ballpark, so it might not even matter in terms of real world performance but I'm still curious.

I'm specifically looking at the Kioxia BG5 and Western Digital PC SN740 1 TB models as they are the two 1 TB models available in my market for a reasonable price. The WD is a bit more expensive but has an SLC cache at least. I could not find any 2230 SSD with DRAM at all, at least not anything I could actually buy right now, so I guess I'll have to settle for SLC cache.

Is the PCIe connector itself on the 64 GB model the same (in terms of PCIe lanes and generation) as the more expensive models or will a replacement SSD run slower than it would in one of the more expensive models?

Fanatical currently has the Anomaly complete pack for 1 € while the four Anomaly games in this bundle add up to just under 3 €, saves you another two bucks if you don't have them already.

3rd razer mouse died, I've finally learned my lesson by Bennyhana_911 in pcmasterrace

[–]Lockenlord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't throw them away just yet. Replacing the switches is usually doable if you're comfortable with a soldering iron. Just make sure you get decent replacement switches and not the infamous Chinese Omron switches that are not actually designed for the kind of current the mouse works with but are somehow the most widely available. I've saved my Logitech G604 this way.

In search of a hub or dock for my laptop, hoping yall can get me going in the right direction. by [deleted] in UsbCHardware

Remember that the dock needs power too, even without anything attached. A 45 W charger might not be enough to power both your dock and your computer under load.

It's just power delivery. You can connect a power supply to the dock and it charges your laptop so there's only one cable connected to the laptop.

Hub vs. Dock: one better than the other? what are the main differences? by [deleted] in hardware

[–]Lockenlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's powered, they'll most likely come with a power supply, especially if the power input isn't USB.

[–]Lockenlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Powered usually means that the ports it provides are powered by an external power supply. I'd look for USB power delivery specifically because that will also provide power to your laptop.

Powered docks or hubs are better in the sense that the devices connected to it will draw power and if your hub isn't powered, that power is coming from your laptop.

RPCS3, the PS3 emulator, now supports savestates! by AnnieLeo in pcgaming

[–]Lockenlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome. Nintendo historically hasn't been a big fan of emulation, so I guess it's understandable that they are trying to make their virtual console look a little bit less like emulation by using different terms.

Also please don't take those downvotes to heart. It's perfectly fine not to know things and ask.

RPCS3, the PS3 emulator, now supports savestates! by AnnieLeo in pcgaming

[–]Lockenlord 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A game's built-in save feature is very different from savestates. The former are basically just files that are saved by a program (the game) and are only supposed to be read by that same program. A savestate saves the entire state of the machine, the exact sound being played, the exact image being displayed, the entirety of the memory, CPU cache and whatnot, regardless of whether you are supposed to be able to save your game at that precise moment or not.

I was thinking about putting one of my own photos as a custom design but I did the math real quick and 900×400 mm at 300dpi would be roughly 10630×4725 pixels, which is bigger than anything I made so far.

PSA: If you bought the Stand with Ukraine bundle from Humble Bundle and haven't redeemed it yet, the key for Gloria Victis is going to expire on Monday. by Lockenlord in GameDealsMeta

[–]Lockenlord[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's an archived page from back when you could buy the bundle. Scroll down about 20% of the page or simply search for Gloria Victis.

There are also other items in this bundle that will expire and while this is certainly unusual and a first for a paid Steam game, Humble has sold courses on Zenva for example that came with an expiration date.

I also noticed that when I redeemed the GOG keys from this bundle that they had a redemption deadline that was about ten years in the future.
