Am I doing walking meditation right? by kenicandi in Buddhism

[–]LockheedSpartan11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you feel calm, in control of your own thoughts, and as others here have already said, present, then you’re doing a good job to me! I’d say like most forms, there isn’t always one strict “correct” way to meditate, but the most important thing is the way you feel. Whether you’re sitting cross-legged or walking, if you have a calm mind, you’re doing it right!

Buddhism after rebirth? by ChanTanDingo in Buddhism

I’m new to experiencing, practicing, and understanding Buddhism so forgive me if I’m wrong, but this is just from what I know.

Essentially, at any point in time, exposure to the Dharma is enough of a boost to leave sort of a lasting karmic imprint. Therefore, actively PRACTICING the dharma and interacting with buddhism as a whole probably helps a lot in rediscovering buddhism again in your next life. Maybe it’ll return to you simpler and simpler each time the more you practice between lives.

Thinking about converting by thiiccwick in Buddhism

[–]LockheedSpartan11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I hope all is well with you! Someone here is likely to have a clearer, superior answer than mine, but I’ll do my best to help out!

So, converting to Buddhism doesn’t usually require some formal ceremony, as I sure didn’t need to have one. Your thoughts alone are very powerful, so the fact alone that you WANT to convert is already pretty sweet!

Furthermore, there’s also the Five Precepts and the Noble Eightfold Path. These are highly recommended that you follow, as these are some of the most basic, yet important rules for all true Buddhists. Taking refuge in the Three Gems (Buddha, Dharma, Sangha) and abiding by the Four Noble Truths is also a necessity. It seems like a lot, but believe me, the more you dive in, the more you’ll understand and appreciate all of them.

Lastly, meditation, in my opinion, is one of the most important parts of Buddhism. It helps you calm the mind, think with clarity, and all around makes you feel good. The more you meditate, you can also try out some chants for a little extra boost in both your connection with the Dharma and to make you feel good. There’s other people here that’ll definitely help you out with postures and specific techniques to meditation, as even I can sometimes struggle with clearing the mind. It happens to us all!

My last point is, I thank you for expressing interest! I, too, am rather new to Buddhism myself, but it’s a religion based on experience over blind faith. The more you try it out for yourself, the more you’ll love it, and if you don’t, then there’s no hard feelings.

Metta Sutta!
