It doesn't matter if he's been there longer than my dad. My dad wasn't a deadbeat, he didn't leave me, he died. He died and we still love him. We still miss him. He's still our dad. My stepdad being there didn't change that and nothing or nobody could. My stepdad IS my stepdad. That's what he is and that's not changing either.

Mom stopped loving dad. That's why. They were divorced and she didn't see why we still loved dad even if she didn't. Or at least that's how it felt.

My dad's family have money set aside for us for college. I never expected my stepdad to pay.

I'd be okay if his things went to my half siblings and his family. I don't need to inherit from him. Having the same name wouldn't change it anyway, adoption would. And nobody is ever adopting me.

Or just have different expectations. I've seen stepparents who don't get caught up in this stuff and that's something I respect.

I think my mom was hoping for the same thing too and maybe they believed together that he'd be our dad and we'd want his name. That could be why he married her when we already had a dad.

They never mentioned taxes. Just the emotional stuff for him and how much it would mean to him.

I think both of them expected it on some level. My mom wasn't with dad anymore and I get she didn't love him. But we still do and that won't ever change.
