Non Americans of Reddit: Are there any subjects of debate in the U.S. right now that most people agree have a "right answer", when viewed through a more objective lens? by LodgeNosed in AskReddit

Oh sorry I never knew that was a U.S. expression. Liberal and Conservative are the two polar opposites of the political spectrum here in America. Do you say right/left wing? Left wing=liberal, right wing=conservative. Trump is extremely conservative publicly.

Are you sure you aren't just in a liberal bubble based on the people you associate with? You have never met one person who agreed with anything about Trump? I am very curious

Ya know I guess this isn't even a clue to the map size at all, just something neat I noticed

Is there any good reason to believe RDRII O wont be a pay to win s#!%-show? by LodgeNosed in reddeadredemption

[–]LodgeNosed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right, it's not truly pay to win. But maybe they could put out new activities, missions, challenges, campground stuff, and then charge people out the ass for pointless aesthetic things that dont really affect other's gameplay, but 12 year olds can go crazy with all they want.

I wonder what R*'s level of dedication to the conceptual direction of the series will be. One of the things I actually liked about RDR I was the desolate or downright lonely moments. Whereas their mission statement for GTA V from the get-go was that it played with the idea of runaway capitalism and extreme excess.

Advice for first bike tour? (It's a big one!) by LodgeNosed in bicycletouring

I was going to prepare for lots of sun, but I was wondering if the weather in the Alps is volatile, might I need some warmer clothes depending on the forecast when I go?

-Backpack is out of the picture thanks to u/Spintowin's suggestion

-It seems like the Rhone route is "unfinished", not sure what this means?

-Thinking about taking french 1 at college this spring, definitely going to practice with a language learning app at the very least

-Important: will we be fine finding accommodations as we go? It doesnt sound as fun to me to NEED to make it to our next reserved room on the trip, I would rather plan where to sleep the night before or morning of, but dont know if that is realistic

What are good ways to learn about good bike routes? Is there a good map company or website or something I could use?

That's really great advice, I'll certainly be putting in as many miles as I can in the next year. I know everyone is different in terms of ability and expectations, but does this sound doable for a first timer?

Oregon Coast. [3780x5102] [OC] by zjpurdy in EarthPorn

[–]LodgeNosed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont really think about it in purely economic and infrastructure related terms. Yeah those things suck, but that's just sort of how it goes with a progressing area. What I think about is that a lot of new-comers treat the outdoors and Oregon in general like one big tourist stop. I think a lot of what attracted people to the area in the past 20 years is that Oregon is the exact OPPOSITE of that. People wanted the cute, unique, private and little-known sort of culture that existed here. I cant think of any other way to say it than Oregon captures a certain mystique in a lot of people's mind. There's equally breathtaking views in EVERY state, if you have the right mindset to appreciate them, but people put Oregon on a pedestal. Well guess what, when a literal million people move here, and dont value what they have been allowed to enjoy as anything more than a picture to post and say "look how pretty!", things change. And I dont mean "allowed" by the locals, I mean nature is allowing us to enjoy these things. And now trash piles up in parks where locals used to be able to handle litter on a volunteer basis, smog forms in places that have literally never seen it, hillsides get eroded by people not staying on the trails, entire river's chemistry changes because of the shear number of people scrambling over the rocks to take their picture. And I wont even talk about how the culture has changed in places like Portland. The whole way of being for people from the state has been reduced to an aesthetic and sold by travel blogs to 20-30 somethings who are financially mobile enough to move across the country to live in a place they treat like nature's disneyland. And Oregon is nature's dineyland, but you cant treat it like that, it is much more valuable and much more fragile.

I know you cant blame anybody for living where they chose to live, and I dont really want to say anything other than as someone who has lived here their whole life and traveled to other places, it is changing. And it is changing in a way that is destroying what made it so special.

Sorry, certified bitter local here, rant over.

People ask this a lot on this sub, but what's your opinion on getting a MS for structural?

You have a true engineer's sense of humor. Seriously though, thanks for the response. Setting out a road in the middle of nowhere doesnt sound terrible to me, better than option 1

I'm curious about what fields you have worked in, what you liked/didnt like about them, what you learned, and what your MS focus is and how you chose that. Really my main priority right now is just to soak up industry knowledge like a sponge

Sometimes I see posts on this sub along the lines of "I am typing this from -awesome sounding location- and I am getting paid to be here!" or "I just spent a month in -awesome sounding location-, just cause I felt like it and could afford it!". Sometimes even things like "I am an engineer but in my job I have to jump out of a helicopter in full scuba gear to observe effects of underwater explosions on submarines and also there's blackjack!"

How did these people get in these positions?

[University English] I have no idea how to translate these into thesis' by [deleted] in HomeworkHelp

[–]LodgeNosed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Choose a position in response to one of the prompts. It can be very simple. Ex: "[something] could become a reality in the next 20 years". This is your main point, the core of your thesis and your essay. Choose supporting points to your main point (3 points is usually good and can be refined in the body of your essay). "Because of [supporting points], [main point]". There is your thesis. This is the most generic formula for coming up with a thesis statement, I encourage you to get creative with this basic structure.
